z4m and non M suspension

i want to replace the suspension to bilstein coilovers on my alpina roadster, but the closest spring rates are the ones for the z4m...

so I am wondering if the m and non m suspension are interchangeable
 
Only way is to get a set and look, as often they are different spring rates and shocks but the same setup. On my old E46 coupe i was running M3 suspension, well coilovers for an M3.

Does not help you much, but easiest is identify a front shock setup from yours, as i very much doubt they could change the rears anyway.

looking through realoem, the z4m and non m front suspension set up are definitely different

on the z4m, the front suspension strut is bolted to the hub, on non-m, the front suspension strut is an insert clamped onto the hub

however, as you guys have suggested, the non-m suspension is similar to e46 (e46 m3 and non share similar designs, but different part numbers...)

so i am now wondering if e46 suspension would fit, i ve seen posts where the owner has changed the suspension inc hub from e46 m3 and csl.
 
Ive done mine today, and the setup is the same, but struts and springs look different imo. Well springs are much shorter, and struts are a bit different. Struts would work maybe, but you would need Z4 springs.

i ve spent most of today looking on net, various e46 and e46 m3 forums for suspension set up

i have concluded that suspension for m3 and non-m's are compatible, but with different damp and spring rate, but dimension for the front strut is the same

also have been looking at pictures of the front struts on google, the e46 struts do look longer (as you said, long springs), but i think the travel on the damper piston is probably longer too

i have had a quote for a set of KW v2's, i will ask if they can supply me with different springs to suit my axle load

what a pain in the ass
 
Yup :D

I had M3 suspension on my 330, so yes its only the spring rate that was different, well and dampers were far better.

Let us know how you get one, as would be handy to know as M3 suspension is getting widely available now :wink:
