Z4M, a bit of an after thought?

Just been think about this :? and was wondering why the Z4M hasn't got the side vents like the 3,5 and 6
And when it listed on parts/web site its lump in with all the Z4 and has not got it own listing like the 3,5 and 6, was the Z4M a bit of an after thought for BMW :!:
 
Z4M was the first M car that didnt have a newly designed bespoke engine? Having said that, the E46 M3 engine is a freakin legend... :?
 
Personaly I love the flame surfacing on the side of the car more than any other angle. So I'm gkad there is no vent slashing through it.

The M3 and M5 don't have the flame surface doors, to the same degree, there quite ordinary looking from that angle. So the vent makes them look a bit more special.

Works even better on the Z3 looks realy cool on that wee car.
 
I'm amazed the M didn't get the aero side skirts as standard to make it stand out a little more. Just a load of M badges thrown at it :) Might even have got a spoiler if BMW had pushed the boat out!

Interior is a big improvement over standard Z4s IMO. I guess BMW didn't feel any further costs could be justified. It was a very epensive car when new at list price.
 
Hasnt the new m5 only go like a wee little grill now?

I don't think that sort of grill would work on the e85/6 with its side indicators... But would certainly look the part on an e89 z4m if they ever make one.

But is X5M not a ture M just a hybrid using the 4.8l "tweaked" engine?

The 1M has a tweaked engine also, S54 engine as in the Z4M is the last of the true ///M engines IMO. Straight Six NA.

That's why I wanted one as a keeper :wink:

No, last of the E36 M3's used the S50B32 engine as used in most of the Z3M's. Pretty sure all E46 M3's used the S54 engine.

Me too, got my S54 M Coupe tucked up in the garage, it's an inspiring engine with an awesome sound track and throttle response. Lovely!

Yes mine had the last of the S54 lumps in Z3M but still had vanos issues :thumbsdown:
 
Yes agree with the comments about NA. I suppose that's why I wanted to turn my Z4M into a CSL version, and take the NA route to its extremism and address the handling. I do like the look of the new Z4 35is but its a turbo :thumbsdown: . Would have got one if they put the 4L M3 e92 engine.

Also probably not the wright forum for this but I'm amazed that the new M3 GTS with a 4.4L (BMW own Stroker Kit) only produces 440 bhp (Its under-tuned???), the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 produces nearly 500bhp :evil: . Even the 911 GT3 RS 3.8L produces 450bhp . Have to say gone are the days of BMW of NA :headbang: , all next Ms with be turbo + hybrid electric, and wind power, lol. Best keep hold of our Z4M's.

Do you mean versus pre-facelift?
Post face lift Z4 and Z4M are identical inside in general - aside from options etc
