Z4forum "meet" - weekend of 02/03/04 July

I would be up for this. Don't really mind where or when but avoid school holidays is a def.

I organised a trip two years ago and we stayed just outsdie Kendal just off the M6. Hotel was quite big and had a large car park. Advantage of that location was that it was mid way between drives into Yorkshire Dales and Lake district. We did the Lakes on the saturday and dales on the Sunday.

That's a good plan/location because:
1) good driving roads
2) reasonably central and not too much of a drag for us Scottish members
3) there's also likely to be a large choice of campsites around there

A bit further into the Lakes, but I know for a fact that this place doesn't mind campfires (there's even stone firepits around the field) in the campsite and has very nice showers and toilets: http://www.grizedale-camping.co.uk/ - that was the base for a 24-hr mountain-bike race I took part in a couple of years ago. Nearest pub's a 1/2 mile walk/stagger away too :). They also don't mind large groups which some sites can be funny about too. Plus the Lakes had loads of hotels all over for the elders...

Ally, yes camping in the area would be easy. Grizdale is a bit of a way though!! Ridden a bike around there in my younger/slimmer/fitter days, great fun! :)

Now that sounds a good idea! The Peak District doesnt really have enough 'decent' (read: Low traffic) roads on weekends for a 2-day jaunt. I was struggling to make the last one 60 miles!

Either that or North/Mid Wales probably is good also? Driving inland and then dipping to the coast towns for rests and icecream! :)

Good call. Only 260 miles from home! With a stint on the M6 Toll Road... :driving:

Just looked at that campsite - "Welcome to Grizedale Camping Site and Riding Centre situated in a quiet corner of the Lake District" :D They're gone to love the after market exhausts :P

North Wales, I'd be up for that
Sack that, no danger I'm driving that distance for a "national" meet. Needs to be more central, i.e. Lakes/Peaks

OK,Would appear that the lake district/peaks area/yorks dales is getting the most votes?
(north wales is less central,i think)

Will start adding names to list, and we can agree dates/final locations and b&b's/campsites,etc asap
Can PM all ppl taking part, once final details agreed(for security) cheers  :driving:

Im up for lake district/peaks and york dales! and im up for camping! few beers and a BBQ ohh yes! Count me in

Could work for me in early July, Lakes or Yorkshire Dales or Moors, Peak District is just starting too far South IMO for those from higher up in Scotland, could even try the tent I bought about 10 years ago and have never used. :D

Looking thru the posts, would seem that late june/early july would be best.
Proposing the 1st wknd in july;ie the 2nd/3rd/4th(fri to sun)

ALSO:KENDAL Would seem to be the best overall location to meet up,and we can arrng campsite/b&b's etc for there,or as suggetsed Grizdale in the lakes(if that suits).

From kendal, etc we could prob find some good drives thru the lakes and also the dales??

PLEASE GOTO PAGE 2 OF POST/HAVE STARTED ADDING NAMES TO LIST.
PM ME IF U WANT TO BE REMOVED FROM IT,CHEERS :D
:driving:

PS,PM me if i have missed u out,and need added to list,thanks

also, can u pm/post dates every1 is available and as much info as poss on places to stay and drives
(i am looking into this too,tho just not as famlr with the lakes, etc as some others will be).
thanks again

if I was to come in early July in the lakes ie that first weekend it would be with mrs gannet as it would be the first weekend of our holiday...

Hi all.

i take it every1 is happy with the list so far,and every1 on it will be attending this meet?
daveg,name now added

Now all we need to do is make a final decision on date and initial/final meeting place and we can look into b&b's,camping, etc.

I am qt happy going with kendal to meet/stay,and then go drives from there into the lakes one day and upto york dales next day.

Sound like a plan,folks??

I will make a decision when date and location etc already decided as my date would be rather inflexible etc. Id be B&B though

(in fact already got a B&B in kendal booked for the Monday and Tuesday night - 5th & 6th July) so would need to see if feasible etc to come earlier...
