Z4C v Z4MC

I have a Z4C and have a developing itch for a Z4MC. Looking at cars available and comparing like mileage examples it seems that there can be anything between £10K difference for high mileage cars and £14K for low (er) mileage examples.
What are the collective thoughts on the difference in price?
Is the difference warranted on performance?
Is the difference mostly down to kudos of owning an M?
I have never driven a Z4MC to makes comparisons with my Z4C.

I hope you get some replies from MC owners, or better still people who have had both - I'm curious too!

I've got a MC and have driven the C on a few occasions. The MC is a special beast really, the different steering rack is probably the thing you notice the most at first. The engine next, it's very different to the 3.0...not as good as a daily, but better as part of owning a fun weekend car. Overall, it's a much more old school raw driving feel, which IMO makes it a lot more fun when compared to most other cars you'll drive today.

The 3.0 Coupe is a fine car and certainly a bargain for the money. It cost a lot less to run and looks almost 95% of what the M does. Does the extra 5% warrant the extra money, only you can decide...but if you can afford it, then I personally think you wouldn't regret it.

Only other thing to consider, given the costs of both cars today, I don't think you'll lose much on either.

Another lurking and watching with interest. If it where a Roady I know what I would say. :driving:

Search for some of the recent new video reviews on the M, especially Joel’s one.

I came from a 3.0 with plenty of thrills... now owning the M find it’s on cocaine & steroids every time I drive it...

Once you’ve driven one, you’ll understand

I can't comment on the Coupe but I did the same last year when I went from a 3.0si roadster to the M! All I will say is, steering, looks, power delivery, S54 and sound!!

The only way to know if this upgrade is right for you is to drive one. But - be prepared to take the plunge if you do, because there's a very strong chance that your immediate reaction will be "gotta have one!". Good luck!

Essentially everyone will say the same thing in a slightly different way and at the end of the day if you have the ability to get in to a Z4MC it should really be a question of when rather than if.

The price differential exists for a reason and you will likely realise why within the first 5 minutes of driving one - get in one before the prices follow the trajectory of the Z3M

Thanks for the replies. I guess a test drive is in order. Couple of problems; 1. Nearest one for sale is nearly 200 miles away. 2. How do go back on promise that ‘this one’s a keeper - won’t be changing this for years’

I did the swopped 6 years ago and never looked back,
But one thing I would say is, if it going to be your daily dive and the commute is less then 10 miles
I would stick with the Z4C the M’s are shite when cold but the best when hot

Blue Z4MC
I think the above is probably the best reason for my head to win and stick with what I’ve got. :(

What do you use the Z4C for? Some people daily their M but the non-M is easier to live with. You also get a bit desensitised to the character of the M if you drive it all the time. As a weekender it’s very special.

It will be a daily, and as has been pointed out, the 3.0 probably better for that.
Anyway, I’ve emailed a couple of dealers, so a nice long drive to test might be on the cards.

I had exactly the same dilema. Heart says M. head says 3.0. I want to use the car for my commute during the summer - not just for weekends, and so head won. Plus more money left in the bank for new kitchen - so the Mrs is happy too.
No doubt, the M could also be cosidered an investment too.

I have had both..And both driven as daily users and a cheeky blast at weekend.

You will get about 75% of the M car with the 3.0Si for about 50% of the running costs..

Both are great, the M is better as its quicker with a decent diff in.

Is it worth it for the extra £6-8k that it will cost, probably not for the majority.

Thanks for this, I think you’ve made up my mind to continue cherishing my 3.0. It’s only covered 56000 miles and should do me for many years to come.

At least go & test drive an M... or are u afraid of what will happen...

The service dilemmas alone (expensive valve adjustments/rodbearings etc) makes it a weekend/summer car, never mind the massive fuel consumption. However the notchy gearbox is easy fixable (Redline oil) and the rock hard suspension too (Eibach Pro).
Another thing I realized when buying is the issue with altered meters, check MOT history etc to validate the milage
