Z4C Rattling Noise... Clutch?

MY z4C is making a strange rattling noise when I accelerate in 1st and 2nd gear. Also when stationary I can hear it faintly... when i dip the cluth the noise goes completely.

Any ideas?

The noise doesn't happen in gears above 2nd...

I think it depends on the loudness of the noise as there should (or at least will) be some clatter. Does the noise increase or decrease if the car is cold/warm? How many miles has your car done?

Car has just reached 18k and temperature doesn't seem to affect it. The noise is most noticeable when when you lift off when changing up to second gear

If you hold the gear knob when stationary with the engine truned on you can also feel it clattering, when you depress the cluth with your hand still on the knob the clattering stops :?

That part is completely normal so don't worry about that, but the rattling on acceleration may not be normal...

Plenty on here regarding the rattle when stationary:

Both of my previous 3.0si Z4s did it and both were under 10k.

It's a 57 plate so not under warranty I'm afraid. Hope the car hasn't been clocked :?

Update from yesterday, we had a bit of sun in the afternoon so it was quite warm, noise seemed to be quieter. Last night the temp defnitely dropped and I could defnitely hear the noise more.

I will struggle to get to a garage until the end of the week, do you think I will be ok driving it until then? I dont want to cause further damage!! :!:

The owner before me only used the car for very small journeys and hardly put any miles on it over 18 months. I've been doing 300 miles a week since I've owned it with good runs of between 30 and 100 miles. Had a BMW inspection 5 months ago

I definitely think youve nothing to worry about - sounds like the normal rattle of the plates in their and I notice it more when cold too.

Im sure its nothing to worry about. Mine rattle in neutral, I had a new gearbox, clutch and release bearing under warranty only for the noise to return, after which the dealer declared the noise to be normal.
