I've decided to plastidip my wheels this weekend. All the lacquer is coming off my wheels for some reason, I've never used anything harsh on them at all and while washing them with a hose one day they started peeling. I don't think my warranty will cover wheels so I thought I'd get them refurbished in black. Before I do however I've purchased a few cans of plastidip and I'm going to spray them this weekend to see what they will look like black. From what I've seen you can get pretty good results and it just peels off without any damage to your wheels. Here it is at the moment:

 
My front grills are sprayed with plasidip and seem to be holding up.

Not sure how well wheels will work though due to brake dust and cleaning, although from memory I seem to recall many painting them on DW so probably not an issue.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures.
 
The grille is next on my list of plastidipping, along with the steering wheel inserts if I have any left, I hope 3 cans will be enough for the wheels or I'll be driving around with two silver and two black for a bit.
 
Be interested to see this. On steering wheel inserts, srhutch and I both did this recently and certainly in my experience it only lasted a few weeks before starting to peel. Mine is a daily driver, srhutch's is not, but I think his is also coming off. I ended up having mine stripped and spray painted Matt black. Cost me £80 though, because of the work required to get all the OEM rubber off...
 
how many coats did you use on the steering inserts? Im thinking maybe it doesnt stick very well to the OEM rubber?

3, though srhutch did a much better job than me. It's not adhesion, it's the constant wear on the edges from your hands on the wheel. Have a look in the How To section for e85/86, should be near the top, otherwise search for steering wheel. It s all fully documented :thumbsup:

Oh, and I already know my efforts were sub-standard :D
