Z4 with lgp

Hi guys and girls,
I went to look at a Z4 3L 2003 last weekend.
I’m interested in people’s experiences with these cars when doing 20k miles a year.
The car seemed in good condition and drove well. It had an Lpg kit fitted to help with the petrol cost.
The Car had done around 60k with a new alternator.
Am I correct in saying the 3L is a chain driven engine?
Are there any other mechanical, servicing parts to look at or take into consideration when running these cars to high miles?
The tyre warning light was on but having a little read seems common in slippy conditions (there was still snow on the ground in places) and can be re-set.

Not sure where your warm welcome got to :D

Be careful with the tyre warning, although it can fluctuate in cooler weather, once it's reset it shouldn't flash - would be one to try if you go see it again.

There aren't many LPG conversions on here but I suppose the usual things would apply, notably who carried out the conversion.
 
Hi afennell. Sounds like a weird Zed. LPG conversion. New alternator etc. I'd give it a wide berth if it was me. Plenty for sale on these very pages and you'll know its history. Result!

i would not want a lpg zed but i can;t imagine it sholud be an issue if its been done by a professional

Hello and Welcome! Someone else asked about LPG recently and Olli did update that he'd had no problems since getting the car modified.

some of the older Z4 have a sticky steering problem,i have a 2004 z and when its hot ie hot weather or heating on in the footwell the steering sticks £2000 fix apparently :headbang:
 
The big three in decreasing order of expense

Sticky Steering
Roof Motor (avoiding the obvious coupe gags)
Broken rear springs

Remember though, that people discuss problems on forums. You won't see several hundred owners making posts saying their steering doesn't stick, their roof works and their springs are in one piece still

The Z4 is a good solid car, and you just need to buy carefully as with any other performance car from a premium brand. Use the buyers checklist and if you're worried, take out an insurance backed warranty for piece of mind
