Z4 wipers

Hi. I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I missed a search (couldn't find a search function) , but I am having problems with my 2004 BMW Z4 3.0. (I don't know if it's E85 or not, perhaps someone could enlighten me). Anyway, my wipers are stopping in the middle of the windshield. I had this problem six months ago and the dealer replaced my wiper relay. It has just started malfunctioning again. The wipers stop intermittently and I have to shut the car off to reset them. Recently I had to shut the car off 4 times in a ten mile drive. I have the feeling that it's the wiper relay again, though I don't know if the wipers use one motor. If this post belongs in another forum please politely point that out and I'll move it. Thank you for any help. :)

Hi and welcome to the forum

Sorry I can't help you with your problem but there's plenty of knowledgeable guys on here so I'm sure someone will be along shortly.

What I can help you with is that an E85 is a Roadster and an E86 is a Coupe', hope you get your answer soon and don't forget to introduce you and your Z to the forum :driving:

…..oh and welcome to the Forum

Thanks all for the welcome and assistance. I managed to find the search function and found the step by step repair for this problem. In essence, problem solved within the first five minutes of being on this forum. Thanks all.

As a follow up, I followed the directions on taking apart and cleaning the motor, and it indeed had gobs of grease from the worm gear. I had to drill out two of the grommets that hold down the wiper pan, and on clipping the motor back in to place I broke the little white clip that holds the motor down. Lo and behold, this part is not available in the US, and I have to wait at least five days to get this $1.00 clip. Oh, well, story of my life...
