Z4 will not start after battery change

Just an update....
The auto electrics garage have run the diagnostic and say they are 100% positive that it's the "in tank fuel pump" that's gone and needs replacing. They said they got the car to start twice (against the cars will - whatever that means) but it won't start again once it's been turned off.
Now, they want £600 to repair it!! They say they can only get the part from BMW for £300 - does any one know where I could locate the part cheaper?

Bad tank pump eh..... Not unheard of,but so easy to check that its one of the basic things you go to before even reading fault codes.
Fuel pressure from pump upto fuel rail is very easy to check.....
You dont need to be an auto electrician to check that!!
Euro car parts may list a pump... ? It needs to be taken out and a make and part number found,then you can search for a replacement.

It's been a nightmare - next BMW I buy, is getting a warranty extension.
Apparently this code is what scared the "regular" mechanic off - 2869 DME self diagnostics : RAM - check failed.
£600 to replace sounds really expensive to me, apparently they have phones round and BMW is the only place that stocks the pump at £255 plus VAT.
That's not including their £55 diagnostic fee....

i'll share my experiences with this same fault in my 2002 Z4 2.5i
i've had the same start problems for months (starting in oktober, gotten worse in december) when the weather turned colder this winter, and decided not to change my DME/ECU but to give my ECU an software update through the dealer. faultcode in my situation 28AC Internal RAM Fault
i updated the DME at the end of january this year (2017) and the problem never occured again.
i'll guess that this problem is gonna be more common in the future, as the car's getting older and one or more "bits" inside the DME tend to fall over, so for future reference: try updating your DME first before spending lots of money on a new DME.
