Z4 Wheel and Lowering Question

Hi all,

New to the forum and just bought my Z4 Coupe 3.0SI. I was looking to lower it and have been given two options. Being in australia as i am, they have offered me king springs which is a generic lowering form of spring sold here. But also they have offered me Vogtland Springs from germany. What is anyones view of what the better spring to go with is?

Im also putting on 19 x 8.5 M6 Replica rims with 235/35/18 tyres. Will these be bigger than the original's? How much wheel space above the rim and between the wheel arch can i expect if both springs lower it approximately 30mm?

PS I have done a search on here for similar threads but nothing came up that was quite specific, so any help would be appreciated. :)

Those tyres wont fit! I do however think you may realise this. :thumbsup:

Further, why not go for the staggered look with wider 9.0 rear wheels? I believe the "dish" is more concaved adding to the look of the car.
 
Woops!! Haha, yeah i meant to say 235/35/19's!!! :lol:

I was going to go for the staggered look but prefer having the ability to swap my tyres around giving me more grip as i am consistently changing only two tyres at a time and rotating rather than waiting for all four to go low on tread.

Any ideas as to ride height in this configuration? Anyone have any pictures of lowered suspension?

Surely the rear wheels/tyres were designed to be a wider track on the rear, as was the rear suspension. Why change this set up? Actual lowering/ spring change is quite easy if you have a bit of mechanical knowledge.I lowered my Z4 roadster myself, the rears are simple and the fronts a bit more time consuming as you have to remove the complete strut before removing the spring. :thumbsup:
 
More to the point, you live in Australia and bought a Coupe????

I love my Coupe to bits, but i live in England so sometimes can't open the roof up (or wouldn't want to even if i could). But Australia???? Thats a different story.

Enjoy your coupe anyway, would be good to see the results of the lowering? What part of Australia you from? I have been a few times and love the place to bits.

I stayed with the oem size tires and went with 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear wheels. The increase in wheel width fills out the wheel wells nicely and will still allow for the car to be lowered. My coupe has the sport package, so it's 0.5" lower then the standard suspension. Very happy with the look and performance. In the future, I might go with a lower suspension, but it works so well now that I don't want to mess with it.
 
In hindsight, to want to lower the car you must:
(a) have really smooth rounds (unilke the uk); or, :thumbsup:
(b) be a sadomasochist who likes back pain!! :o

I've just bee out in mine and the ride om M-sport suspension is truely crap! How I'd cope with lower suspension I have now idea and I'm in my twenties! :lol:

You do track days?
 
Welcome to the forum Slash.

My car is lowered using Eibach springs. The ride is about 25mm lower than standard and is designed to fill the gap left by the lower profile tyres on 19" wheels. Although my car is an M, i'm sure Eibach can do springs for a 3.0 as well.

They are one of the biggest names in suspension and a definite bet for good quality and decent price.

As for the ride, lowering doesn't necessarily spoil the ride. The bigger wheels with less sidewall will have more effect at stiffening things up.
