Z4 wanted forTop Gear type challenge!

Hi there
A few friends and I have set ourselves a Top Gear type challenge to drive to the Belgian F1 and back in July 2024. We have set a budget of £2k and I fancy a Z4 convertible if I can get one for close to that price. It will need to have a MOT until at least August, get me there and back and then be sold for close to the purchase price when I return (unless I fall in love with it :D)
Any advice please? Never owned 1 but always loved the look of them!
TIA
Mark

Hi and welcome to the forum.

That sounds like a fun idea. You ought to be able to find an early one for that, although it's unlikely to be perfect!

Personally I'd stick to the 6 cylinder models as they tend to be less troublesome than the 4s and you get a better soundtrack! Plus the straight 6 is one of the Z4s unique features.

Anyway good luck with your search.

Get yourself an early 2.5. They’re the sweet spot for value, and plenty around. If you don’t expect perfection and aren’t afraid of higher mileage, you should be able to find an honest example.

Thanks for the quick replies and the advice, much appreciated. And keep me posted with the restoration, Paddy!

Sounds awesome fun. Will you be taking in sites of interest or driving straight there?
Good luck.

We are hoping to add a couple of stops, making it a proper TG challenge. Maybe a track day if we can find one!

I’m am currently restoring a 2.5 that will be for sale for that kind of money.

Hi Paddy. Do you have any more pics of your Z please?

If you look here you will see my build thread, it’s a great wee z that I’m fixing everything on- don’t intend to make a profit, only demand from the boss was not to lose money!
https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=144640
It will have a freshly painted front end when it’s done.
Happy to pm pics. IMG_0809.jpeg

Looks lovely - you are clearly more talented than I am when it comes to cars. I wouldn’t know where to start! Is it a Cat S/N? I am definitely interested and will keep an eye on your progress

Cat N. Just needs a new front panel and bumper. I’ve spent my time so far sorting all the other wee jobs to make sure it’s mint. Fun wee project I’ll be sad to see go, but will be glad it goes to a good keeper.

Thanks again Paddy. Do you have a target timeline for completing? The only downside I can see at the moment is having to travel all the way up to Yorkshire as I live in Wiltshire. I will do it for the right car though :D :driving:

Well, what a few days it has been! We have gone from me wanting a Z4 as 1 of the 3 cars involved in the trip, to the group all deciding on a convoy of Zs!

I have purchased (stolen?) a lovely looking 2007 E85 2.5Si from the amazing x_rays (thanks again Janis!) who personally delivered it from London to enuff_zed in Norfolk! Martin then checked it over before calling me and I agreed the sale - Janis then made the return trip to London. What a legend!

Martin is busy beavering away on my car (see the ‘Project Spa’ separate thread for progress) so enough about that. Only to say I can’t wait to see it in the flesh, having bought it unseen and never owned or even sat in a Z before!

Talks are underway with bigwinn about Z number 2 - fingers crossed for a positive outcome there. We also have a number of options for Z number 3 from within the forum, with project cars by Paddy and Martin looking like great options, to name but 2.

What an amazing story this is developing into. 6 of us started with an idea for an F1 trip with a bit of a difference and I am now part of this amazing community who are helping us achieve our goal!

To be continued…

 :driving: :D

Well, the first Z has been purchased and driven back from Lincoln all the way to sunny South Wales. Big thanks to Bigwinn for the deal - Jamie is chuffed with it!
