agammon, are you coming to the London meet?

I think I'm still coming unless someone decides to wreck my car completely ;)

Mine will be the ugly car of the day!

Bad luck, as others have said, it's just bad timing you crossed paths with a tw@.

Try a back street panel / spray shop...

I clipped a wall in the Pyrenees last year and crumpled my wing, scuffed the bumper corner knocking it slightly out of line and took a chunk out of the wheel. Back home I took it to the body shop used by my insurer (knew this from previous experience, from a truck into my rear in road works as it happens - he was a tw@ too, but different car). Quoted - £900 plus VAT for a new wing and re-spray not including the wheel or 'anything unseen'... open cheque book

Tried my local backstreet panel basher who charged £200 cash to beat the wing out, fill and professional spay / bake job. Also included a sill I'd scuffed on a rock in the Lakes earlier in the year too whilst he was at it. And sorted the bumper (few quid needed a new clip), scrubbed the scuff out and re-spray. Perfect result for less than my excess. Even gave the car thorough clean as it was filthy from the road trip. :)

[thread hijack]
My general point was to try and convey that one should not take a wave through a gap from another driver as read and go for it. Again not suggesting the OP did so. I always think when being waved through - could the driver be waving to someone else such as a pedestrian they may know, gesticulating during a phone conversation etc.... ie things that as a driver you may interpret one way when the other driver means something completely different. An alternative example would be flashing of headlights - I never flash them to let people out. I will leave a gap big enough for others to use - it is up to them if they then use it or not. If you flash and they go for it, who's fault is it if you have failed to see an overtaking motorcyclist/cyclist making their way down the outside of the traffic you are waiting in. yours, theirs, the motorcyclist/cyclist... ?

Valid points mate, thanks for clearing that up! :)

Apologies to the OP for the hijack also! Hope it's going well...

New update...

No call from their insurance so I may have got away with it which means I won't lose my 2 years NCB and I'll just sort the wing myself for a couple of hundred quid :)

Sounds like a result - albeit still a few hundred notes down because of a jackass. Hope you get it sorted quickly so you can move on.

Tbh I'd rather spend £200 than lose 2 yrs NCB as I'm paying £3,600 as it is so I don't want it to go up anymore ;)

Ouch that is big money on insurance... I drive that stretch of road in my Zed many times & if it's where I think it is, most drivers are pretty frakked off with the queuing & pushing in. Bit late now, but that lorry looks like you're not the first...

Also, watch out for a new black BMW 5 series, it's an unmarked rozza that patrols the 102M before the pipe.

Cool thanks.

£3.6k as I live in london and have only been driving 20ish months. It's gone up by £2,000 since I got the Z4 (had a Cooper before).

Contemplating moving out of London so I get cheaper insurance!
