Z4 vs Boxster S

Taking advantage of a rare sunny day ... Called my mate last minute who wasnt on call for once to meet me somewhere in the middle of Newbury and Birmingham to go play with the cars! We went from the Banbury junction M40 and took the A/B roads around Chipping Norton etc and wiggled towards Stratford before a pub stop.

Really interesting driving them both together ... Although the S is the match for the ///M my little 3.0si didn't let the side down at all. As lay men on limited roads they were both pretty matched, both got equal looks and both have their good and bad angles. Sorry the pics aren't so good but I thought it was worth an upload seeing them together.

I took my mate for a spin in mine as he hadn't seen it yet and he was really impressed with it. And that was judging it against his Boxster S and his sister's E89.

Can't wait for the next road trip ... Trying to drag my brother down with his new SLK and other mate from home with his TT (coupe). Wow it's gonna look like the local hair dressers are moving shop!!!! :-D

I haven't made my mind up ... But I'm feeling the front of my zed seems to look more dated than the front of the Porsche ... But the Zed's hips and curves at the back bring it back even?

Boxster looks far more dated imo. !980s shape 911s have aged far better than Boxsters. Z4 styling was way ahead of it's time so athe moment still looks OK. We'll have to wait and see how it ages from now on. The Z3 design is starting to attract classic status though so maybe the Z4 will follow suit.

Should have said, I think the Z wins hands down at both ends, but I've never been a fan of the boxster, so probably not an objective view :idunno:

Roof down, hat on, hoontastic 8)

The M40 was a bit drafty in the outside lane :driving: Nothing beats it though, came off the A34 early to chase an E39 with his roof down and had a quick chat at a roundabout to the disgruntle of the guy behind! - He'd put a Miltek system on and it really sounded decent! I did my bit and told him to get on the forum ... I'll wait and see!

But yes apologies .. disgraceful parking. :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed:

Both cars do look great, I was more than happy sitting in mine! The noise with the cloth off echoing in the cold is just amazing.

Sorry was the Boxster reversed or front view? Always difficult to tell......... Looks the same coming as going  . (Great car though having driven one. Very impressed) it was a tough choice. However the Z4 is a classic with no identity issues.
Very Jealous about being on the road :driving: ............ Mine is on axle stands getting 'sorted' :(

Great to hear of these cars used for fun.

Having had a Boxster and now a Z4, the BMW is better in every way which is why I sold the Boxster after 2 years and still have the Z4 after 4 with no wish to change. Both great cars though.

I never used to like Z3's but for some reason I love them now.

for me . front end of the boxster looks better and the rear of the Z is better

over all the z just takes it

+1

Always thought the Z looks a tad soft and underwhelming head-on

Pretty much how I feel, especially in photographs. My zed really doesn't seem to look as good from the front on pics as it dies in the flesh (maybe it is in my head). I do prefer the zed overall, and I much prefer the smooth engine note.

I guess if you don't or haven't owned a Zed then badge Snobbery would probably come into most outsiders prejudice! But as soon as you've driven/ been in the zed all that rubbish is aside !

One random thing we noticed is the Boxster generates so much more heat in its rear tyres ... And seemed to have a lot more rear end grip at low speeds (granted I don't have top end tyres ... Just waiting for he excuse to replace them!) Probably a lot to do with compounds. His tyres are supposed to be "N rated" which I haven't come across before :-s
