z4 vs boxster s

I am going to buy a raodster, and I'm torn between buying a Z4 and a Boxster S, somewhere around a 2006 model. I've read lots of forums and articles favoring the Porsche over the BMW, but I'd be really intereseted in hearing from Z4 fans why they prefer their car, if in fact they do. The used Z4's tend to be significantly less expensive, and I certainly like that. What else can can I look to enjoy about buying a Z4?

This may help http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22084&start=0&hilit=boxster.

The boxster is a good drive but u get mire for ur money in a z and it is a far better looking car! The forum here is also a basics bonus to the z! Welcome along. Now go buy a z

If your considering a Boxster S then you should be looking at the ///M Roasters as a comparison.

And welcome to the forum.... :thumbsup:

Absolutely - if we're comparing like for like :wink:

As my mechanic puts it

You have to take a lot of stuff out of the way to get to a Boxter engine and that stuff is usually rusty
On a Z4, flip the bonnet and there you are
All of this means you save £100s on maintenance :D

Also the parts are much cheaper, scale economy

Plus just look at each from the side - the Z4 is so much more stylish

Okay I recently went through the same decision process comparing an 04 3l SE Z4 against a 55 2.7 Boxster and these were my eventual conclusions after having extensively driven both.

Interior = Z4 (if it has sports seats), as the Porsche has cheapo switch gear and a mahoosive steering wheel.
Exterior = Z4 - it just looks better from more angles, the boxster looks odd from the sides and not great from the rear.
Roof Mechanism = Z4 - it's fully automatic, the Boxster is part manual.
Handling = Boxster, vs a Z4 with runflats it's light years ahead dynamically.
Acceleration = Draw, but the Porsche feels more composed and more fun in every day driving
Gearbox = Z4 - The Porsche is like stirring treacle.
Noise = Porsche - no contest
Comfort = Boxster - no contest
Running Cost = Z4 - no contest
Reliability = Z4 - no contest, 3* more reliable than a Boxster
COST = Z4 - no contest

Overall = I bought a Z4M Coupe, which was substantially better than both and won EVERY category even when compared to a Cayman S (though the Cayman is nice)

2.7 Boxster has only 5-speed box, only the Boxster S has 6-speed. The 4-spoke steering wheel looks awful.

At 252bhp and 5.9 to 60, i would say the comparison is to the 3ltr imo :thumbsup:

Boxster is a lovelly car, and i would love to own a Porsche, but not the Boxster :thumbsup:

911 or maybe even a cayman. Boxster is a nice car, but too many problems it seems. My mates got a 916 911 an had it for a few years. £500 a service at Porsche and nothing wrong with it since he bought it, unlike his missus boxster, well it's the sh** 2.7 thing though.

More expensive or not the first thing most will say is poor mans Porsche!
I'm toying with selling my z4 for a Porsche but an 02 911

Chris. I know what you mean - the 911 is THE Porche to me, too. The Boxter is just a way to own the badge without shelling-out the cash :fuelfire:

Never driven a newer Z4 (still electric speed sensitive steering as opposed to hydraulic?), but the S54 engine in my M is far superior to the N52 in the E92 coupe and the weight isn't too dissimilar.

Is the M roadster that much better than the newer Z's?
Drive both... :driving:
....and see which you like better... :scratchhead:
I've driven both and prefer the ///M Roadster... :sweetheart:
... but some like the new E89 better... :yeah:
