after having my z4 a while now and covering about 20k in it i have the urge to move on. i typically only need my car about 9 months and this has stuck around almost double that so its done well!!

I really want an M// but thats not going to happen so i have been pondering a 350z, has anyone made the move previously or have any comparative opinions/experience?

cheers

i tested a 350z and the z4m roadster.

I bought the M.

Dont bother with the nissan, its such a class downgrade.
Save that little harder and get an M.

I would never go back to looking at a nissan again.

One of my mates had one a few years ago. Extremely fast car, no doubt about that. But it always felt a bit big and heavy, much more of a GT than a proper sports car like the Z4. Oh and the interior is extremely cheap and plasticky! I did consider one before I bought my Z but the 20mpg fuel economy along with the naff interior swayed me to the Z4. Also, a choice between a Nissan and a BMW isn't a difficult choice :)

The z4 m isnt really an option as i cant justify that kind of money on a car atm

How about a different kind of ///M? depending on you needs and budget:

E39 M5 (£8k, don't worry about 100k mileage but try to get a 2001 or later model)
E36 M3? (look at Vanos for pre 2001 cars)
E30 M3 still a brilliant experience and yo can do loads of the work yourself.

or for pure sports an MK1 Elise (great on track but can be expensive to fix)

Personally, I quite like the 350Z, especially the later year model with extra hummpff :D . Its quite a different character, lmore brawny and GT but it did also feel also better balanced than the M and not so snappy. As regards to the interior, personally I'm never that fussed, I even think that a Subaru is fine

I test drove a 350Z before the Z4, I like the Nissan but the Insurance was £400 more than the Z4 and that what did it for me, I still look at the 350Z's wondering if I should have!

I looked at a 350z before buying my Z4 - IMO it's more of a competitor to my/your current 3.0i rather than a Z4M in terms of performance. The negatives for me were reported 24mpg vs 30mpg for the Z4, higher insurance costs, more expensive tax and tyres (if you compare against non-RFTs). In the end I ruled it out as I couldn't live with the mpg and running costs, but I still love the look of the 350z Coupe, hate the 350z convertible though.

the only other M i would consider is an e46 M3 but still a bit too grown up for me.. im loving the 2 seaters while i can haha.

as for the exige, i had a vx220 and although they are great cars i couldnt live with another daily.
i spend alo of my life on the motorway (25k in the last 12 months)

I'm a big 350Z Fan but for similar money you can get an early E46 M3, I did test drive the 350Z and now it's a bit of a performance bargain. However, it's interior isn't fabulous.

Then again, not knowing your budget I can't really suugest alternatives :)

Have to agree with the earlier comment about the Elise though. A tidy Elise S1 will whipe the floor with pretty much anything this side of a 911 C4S

Not really a vehicle that deals with long motorway journeys well lol.. i do 200miles + most weekends

i narrowed my choices down to an s2000 or a 350z

but for s**t n giggles the requiremens are:

2 seater
manual
reliable
no need for modification
relaible
half decent mpg
on the sporty side of nippy
RWD

Why change at all at the moment as neither cars you are looking at are improvements on your Z.

i get bored after a year or so lol

ive had 15+ cars in 6 years, lifes too short to stick with the same.
i may keep it tbh, just weighing up my options

Wow, and I thought I changed my car a lot

I had an 07 350z gt two cars ago.... My Z4 coupe is a far better car than the 350.. Better economy .. Better handling (more confidence inspiring) and far better built. The 350 was a nice car but the Z4 beats it hands down in most repects ... You'll be dissapointed if you change to it

I've had two 350Zs (Coupe and Roadster) and loved them both, and since everyone is so quick to point out the negatives I'll point out some of the positives:

+ The Bose stereo is a highlight makes an embarrassment of all the Z4 sound systems - it really is very good.
+ I don't get all the comments about the interior - I think it's pretty good - but maybe I've got used to the Z4 interior and forgotten was the 350 was like.
+ The engine & exhaust sound better IMHO.
+ Can't really remember but surely servicing is cheaper being Nissan?
+ Still love the looks.
+ Heavy clutch and steering make it feel more of a muscle car than the Z4.

All that said, when I switched from the 350z to the Z4 I was singing the Z4's praises for ages!
