My friend just picked up an 1999 m coupe (3.2l) the other day. Has anyone ever owned one of these. What would they be like compared to my 3.0l manual z4. Would the m coupe be alot quicker
thanks in advance

The S52 M-coupe is quicker, much more raw, more fun to drive, and much more of a true sports car than the Z4 roadster. But it's butt ugly and for those who couldn't decide if they wanted a Z3 sports car or a station wagon.

LOL!!! You better hope none of the Z3 Coupe fanatics read this or you better ask for WitSec...

well I survived their insults & hatres when the Z4 first replaced the Z3 in 2002. I think I'll be okay. :D

come to Half Moon Bay for the next dorkfest and say disparaging remarks about it! Half of them will probably agree, but dang, that car is fun to drive!

Pretty kewl video that has been around for a while but I don't recall seeing it here....

I would drive like that if i wasn't sure I'd either kill someone or go to jail, or both.

LOL... Ok cool, because, my friend has posted the opposite on the m coupe forum, and they are slaughtering the Z4. My friend said "my friend thinks the 3.0 z4 is savage..." (they replied... what did he drive before that... a ford transit)

thanks guys ( i think there seems to be a bit more honesty on this forum :P )

The suspension on the Z4 is way better than than Bavarian Bread Van though.... So just let them take you on the straight and get it back in the bends..

So, where's the 4???????

Did that say 253 hp?? The Z4 coupe with the Si has 255 (as measured on this side of the pond).

Guess the answer to the engine question is *neither*--get a bike!

They used different engines in the US and Europe initially, IIRC the gearing/final drive on the US version was very aggressive to keep a similar level of performance to the European version http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M_Coupe#1998_-_2000

M Coupes built between 1998 and 2000 are fitted with two different engines, depending on the destination market. These engines are the same ones used in the 1996 to 1999 BMW M3.

The US models were fitted with the S52, a 240 hp (176 kW) and 320 Nm (236 ft·lbf) 3.2 litre inline 6 cylinder engine.

European models were fitted with the S50B32, a 321 hp (236 kW) and 350 Nm (260 ft·lbf) 3.2 litre inline 6 cylinder engine.

If yours is a pre-facelift Z4 then he'll have 90 bhp more than you, quote a significant amount

WLH, Awesome video, that guy in the M coupe sure knows how to drive and has some balls for doing that=P I@m having a driving lesson tomorrow so the video probably is not the best source of insperation, but still a coll vid. Looked kinda similar to the filming of the Getaway in Stockholm films, was in Sweden to I think :P
