Z4 Valuations and Advice

Dear all,

I was hoping that I could gain a consensus on the real vaule of my Z4 at present.

It's a black 2006 3.0si SE with 34,000 miles, few extras like MV2, heated seats, comfort pack, wind deflectors, just had inspection 1 etc. Whatcar suggests £16,750 as a private sale however I have had it advertised on autotrader and pistonheads for £16,250 and now £15,995 with very little interest. Now I am located in NI which reduces the potential number of buyers, however do you knowledgeable people think I am asking too much or is it just the wrong time of year to sell a Z4?

My second piece of advice, is that the the reason I am thinking of selling is that I am just doing too much mileage in such a nice car (near 16K per year), should I buy a banger and store my Z4 till spring and then sell in apparently the best time of year or would the extra 6,000 miles not make much of an impact on the resale value in 5 months times.... :?

Many thanks

Steve

I think you've already got it up for a good price to be honest with you; although how much does SE spec reduce the price over a Sport?

I'd be put off because you're in NI, and there's no way I'd go over just to view a car - I think that's where your main issue lies. However, it does mean that if someone in NI is looking for one, you'll easily get your asking price, as they won't have to travel over.

By the time you buy a banger and insure etc you'd be as well keeping the Z4 and trying again in the Spring IMHO.

The lack of M Sport seats will probably reduce the number of potential buyers greatly.

16,000 miles per year? I'd be happy to do that in my Z! What better car to do it in?

I know the differences are minimal between SE and Sport, but I would not consider one. The seats are probably the main reason, suspension differences might even give a better ride on SE, but non runflats soon sorts that, and off the top of my head the only other difference I can think of would be the steering wheel.

As wondermike said the cost of running a second car for a few months will probably cost as much as the saving yo make on not using the Z4 so drive it and enjoy it. :D

Hi all

Many thanks for all the response, I would agree with the fact that my location and the SE spec. does reduce the number of potential buyers and I have had it on sale for about a month and a bit.

I think mike you are right that buying a banger is probably a false economy.

Woudl you guys think I would be better cutting my loses now and trying again in the spring?

Cheers

Steve

Are you selling the Z4 just because of the high fuel cost? If not, just drive it everyday, i.e. 16,000 miles a year. If you are trying to save money on fuel, buy a diesel.

To be honest the fuel costs aren't really the issue, as I manage to get 33mpg. The current plan is to get something a bit more suited to my daily drive with is a ten mile cross country (nicely suited to the Z4) followed by a 20 mile motorway slog (which the Zed can be a bit tiresome) and then also go half's with my Dad for a boxster/M3 as a weekend car.

I am just finding the Zed a little tiresome over the very poor roads that I have in my area, I have changed over to normal tyres which helped quite considerably however it stills fidgets and wanders quite alot over the roads I drive regularly which has just become a litlte bit too much over time. In fact my Clio 182 was much more stable....

Don't get me wrong when the top is down and you are either cruising or really driving hard on a good smooth road it is a super car with the most amazing engine.

yeah that is mine on usednicars, have to say it looks pretty well in comparison to the rest.

Cheers steve

Thought the picture looked familiar!

I was down at Charles Hurst looking at one on Saturday. Sadly yours is over my budget!

If anything prices are on the UP!!

Interestingly I am waiting for a Nissan dealer to give me a price for my 2007 Z4 Coupe against a new 370Z. So far I have waited all week as he said he is still waiting to get me the best price? Not exactly snapping my hand off is he? Wonder if our Z's are being relegated to the "not overly desirable come trade in" list to non-BMW dealers? Could be just the dealer being an arse as they often are! Trying another dealer Friday.

Could be unstable pricing I guess. :?

Or could just be another lazy, incompetent dealer  .....I've had several instances where I've gone to look at TTs and similar and never heard a squeak back from the sales reptile....probably because diving s/h values meant any trade-in value would be swallowed up by what was left on finance (I'm not John Paul Getty you understand!) and they either didn't have the balls to discuss the fact, or assumed that I wasn't prepared for it and had no extra cash waiting (when in fact I did!)......so their arrogance and pi55-poor customer service lost them a deal.

My Zed came to the end of its three-year PCP in Sept and I agonised over whether to keep it or not - I'd even kept the mileage down so there was sufficient for my French road trip without going over the agreed maximum.....as it turns out, I got such a good deal on the finance, and s/h values indeed started to recover, even at this late stage of the year, that I bit the bullet and kept it.....my head said 'get shot', but my heart was telling me something very different LMAO!

I would have traded up to a new Zed but I haven't worn this one out yet, so why waste money just to get a tin roof? :driving: And it gives me an excuse to keep saving for the Cayman

I strongly suspect that next year will see a further recovery in s/h values because of the limited amount of new car stock thats been selling - and even living only a few miles from the Mini plant (where BMW management/lease cars are two a penny) I've hardly seen a new Zed anywhere.....

That is the odd thing. I bought my Z4 outright so no finance on it and the dealer knows this, but still no phone call. I'm not bothering to phone him as it's his loss!
