Z4 to E46 M3

Wanted an M3 for a while and finally tracked down one with the right mileage and spec. My Z is just running perfectly with new brake pipes and tyres but a good time to change as the dealers don’t have much stock so offering a fair bit over book price for mine and saves me paying for the service and tax that is almost due.

M3 in black 2003 car with the strut brace upgrades, manual with under 50k miles and inspection two service just being carried out before I collect it. Last four cars have been convertibles but it does have a sunroof so not quite back to full tin top driving though sure I will miss the Z when the sun comes out.

My Shift machine knob should fit the M3 but black with chrome surround front grills and stubby mangowalk might be up for sale soon once I put mine back to standard for trade in.

Edit: M3 only an extra £133 to insure over the 3lr Z4, has a tracker wich helps but seems the renewals for the Z might be quite high.
 
£9500 for a perfect early 2003 Z4 se. All the 108s are in good condition and nothing needs doing (had new springs and brake pipes this year) other than a polish and service so they should make a decent profit out of it still. Might get a bit more for private sale but book price is £8500 so happy enough to trade in.

There's a mint 2007 M6 at our dealer with only 20K on the clock... very tempted, as the 6 was always a favorite. They also have a 2006 M3 and a Z4MC on the lot... it must be M-trade-in days at our local dealer!
 
M6 fuel consumption not for the faint hearted though! 15MPG average.

Though you are in the US so largely irrelevant at your fuel prices I know!

Crusoe, good choice, the E46 M3 is a fabulous car. Stay on top of the maintenance and it will last too

I've always liked the E46 M3 ever since my mate bought one (and subsiquently wrote it off 6 months later :lol: )
My local sytners seem to have a load of used M's lately too... maybe its all this news of petrol reaching record highs along with the increase in RFL and 3p levy on petol in April.

I saw an advert in BMW Magazine, E46 M3 has higher servicing cost when compared to E39 M5 (£400 more for Inspection 2).

Not sure about M5, but my old E39 523i SE's service interval was like every 7,000 miles. Does M3 E46 have similar service intervals like Z4 or other E46 (every 16,000 miles)?

It's exactly the same as the Z4M, so Insp2 at a main dealer is £700-£1100....you can get it done for less independently though and on an E46 M3 (the newest of which are now 4 years old) I think I wouldn't bother with main dealer. Birds Automotive for example quote something like £550. Dealers can be haggled down though.

No, it's variable servicing but 12-15k mile intervals is the norm
 
had the dealer do the inspection 2 before I picked mine up, ended up costing them over £2500 at their cost rates including front and rear bushes, alternator, auxiliary belts, diff seals, new brakes all round. Shouldn't cost me much to run for a few years now hopefully and it is in fine fettle averaging 34mpg on a long run and 28mpg so far overall which is a lot more than I was expecting and I'm not hanging around :D

All very true but on a recent ring-around I was told a few Main Dealers would even Price Match the Indi's.. so that would be my choice even on a much older car.
