Z4 stripped for parts

I'd be hunting down accidents involving Z4's within the area.

Interesting how they managed to move the car to the back of the forecourt. Sounds like they had keys?

how is possible to be able to remove the bonnet, bumper and lights without keys to unlock the car and pop the bonnet first?

Pretty easy, pull out the kidney grills to access the cable for the bonnet catch. They will have had all these parts removed withing 15 minutes i would have thought.

I don't have a problem with getting the bits off without keys, but moving it (steering lock, in gear, handbrake, need to steer, etc.) seems a big ask without keys. Very convenient if it was left steering straight, out of gear, handbrake off and could be pushed in a straight line to a quiet spot.....

Dolly wheels underneath it would do it.

A Z4 in Bradford, amazed it managed to get unharmed through customs there :D

Agree but involves jacks, dollies, etc. Few would do that as time is of the essence.
I reckong they'd want to be in done and gone in 15 to 20 minutes, unless it's a very quiet location

Even if someone saw them doing it, you think they would call the police over there?

Blatent shifting it in clear view probably would attract fairly little attention.

Inside job to get the keys maybe for a couple Hundred bucks?? Or 4 guys 4 trolly jacks lift together so alarm doesnt sound??
Or a cloned Key, Or someone who wants the bits hired a Pro car thief to get into it?? many possibilities, Good luck to the plod finding these (if they even bother) My guess is they are already painted & fitted and have an extra couple hundred miles behind them on their new host.
Personally I think the guy /guys who did it should be birched, after all we all end up paying for crime through increased insurance premiums and higher tax to pay for the police..

:soapbox:

Damn didnt think it would be so easy.

Surely the car would have been in a CCTV while it was "moved" out of sight?

And if they had the keys would prob been easier just to steal the entire car... if its in a locked compound how do you not raise suspicion/ get cause on camera passing a bonnet and bumper over a fence :?

Aquazi - as per the article he has bollards protecting the yard so it's easy to walk in and out, but not drive the car away. He's also considering cctv, so didn't have it and they moved the car behind bigger ones to avoid being seen. All too easy really.

I should have read the article properly... just looked at the pictures from my phone

I would have thought someone heard/ seen or even a random cctv caught something..

Dollys? Spare keys?

A single floor jack w/ wheels is all you need. (rapid lift). Same way we move cars around in a scrap yard that've had the engines pulled.

Slide the jack under the front of the car (in the middle) and jack it up on the front subframe. Person from the back of the car pushes it. Person at the front of the car steers it with the handle. Not difficult to do, especially with a light car like the Z4.

As someone said, pop off the kidneys to get the hood open, but honestly that's more difficult and time consuming to do. The quickest way is of course what they actually did (if you look at the video). Smash the drivers side window and unlock/open the hood the old fashioned way.

They did a clean job though and obviously knew what they were doing. Didn't remove any unnecessary bits like the plastic over the rad support.

Must've had a good sized van to fit the hood and bumper in there.

Why didn't the alarm go off when the bonnet was popped dont they have a switch or something?
