Hi guys,

I know this has probably been discussed a lot on this forum but im new hear and would appreciate your advice!

Im looking at upgrading the factory speakers in my z4 and am looking for something with good quality, loud and bassy. At the moment I am looking at getting 2 400w 8inch subs in the cubby holes behind the seats and then component speakers and tweeters in the front.

Has anyone done this and got any advice on what speakers to buy or what to do?

At the moment im looking at a hertz set up with 2 of theese subs and the comps for the front.

Your advice and suggestions would be appriciated!

Thanks Guys

Forget the bav kit.

for that much money (and assuming you're ordering from the US so import charges) that's an example of daylight robbery.

The kit you've gone for is great (I have the hsk's fitted to mine) but you're weakest link will be the factory amp as that is what is powering the drivers.

For the most part, ignoring the efficiency rating (as that's more of a marketing technique than anything else for car audio), you ideally want an amplifier.

How you wish to wire the system is up to you, but I would personally be after an amp that can be wired into 3 channel mode (so either a 3 channel amp, a 4 channel with the rear's bridged, or a 5 channel with 1/2 and 3/4 bridged).

Bear in mind you'd also need a wiring kit for the amplifier as well.

You then want to consider how to get signal into the amp. Easiest option would be to change your stereo though this isn't always desirable. A line out convertor will suffice for most (some amplifiers even have them built in.)

Another thing to consider would be some sound deadening material to minimise rattle.

With regards to installation, I found I needed to make a spacer to fit my woofers into the kick panels.

However with all that said, if you have a budget for your upgrade and what your current system is in the car

Has anyone tried upgrading the audio in an M? The quality is there, but it seems to need some volume before you notice it, and under any speed it's hard to hear it, i guess that's the nature of the S54..

Cheers for the advice guys, I was thinking 2 400w subs would work better than one 800w sub as i can place opne on each side to make the sound equal.

Thoughts on this?

jimmybell, the only documented upgrade that I had bookmarked when I was planning my install. http://www.billswebspace.com/MZ4SubwooferInstallation.htm

joshz4, it's not as simple as just halving the power and using twice the woofers (there are other factors to consider such as surface area, peak to peak excursion and so forth)

Just pay Neil to do it.

Throw your credit card at him

Now I'm blushing.

To op, either Car Audio have done a fantastic job with their search engine optimisation or you're local enough to them (or both), if you're local, give me a shout, will be happy to help.
