Z4 sound

Hi guys,

I am not a long time Z4 owner and I can't delight in being one of the many 35i drivers but I have had my 2012 20i remapped and I'm having a lot of fun in it. I just wish I had a bit more of the noise to match. A few people have suggested an induction kit as I don't really want a Vauxhall Corsa esque fat exhaust. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Look up ducklakeview on here he dies a exhaust MOD to the stock system on the e85/e86, he may be able to help with e89

Hi, the n20 rear box has an exhaust flap to modulate the sound, it's possible to alter this so it's in the open position permanently for more noise (golf tee mod)

Thanks Rob, actually went to try the golf t this afternoon and discovered my flap is permanently open anyway (not sure why, maybe it's broken).

Mike, could you tell me a bit more about the modifications you can perform?

Are you sure about that? The reason I ask is because it's open from cold & then closes as the engine warms up (I think)
Did you just look into the tailpipe & see it was open whilst the engine was off?

Hi Rob,

I thought this too so took it out for a good drive and a warm up. They were still open when we got back.

If its a similar valve, flap that's used on the e46 330ci they rust and seize open ,well at least mine did.

I think that must be the case, I certainly don't think it has anything to do with the remap. Oh well, I guess I'll have to do some more research into how to get a better noise out of it.
