Z4 SMG Gearbox Issues??

Hi guys..Have been offered a deal on a '07 3.0i si with the SMG gearbox, which I like. Just wondered if there are any known issues with these boxes or anything else to do with the SMG I should know? Has anyone got one thats a few years old now?

I haven't heard of any problems, but that does not mean that there are none. Maybe someone with an SMG can chime in...

make sure to test drive it before you buy it (if that isnt obvious)

I tested an 04 with SMG and did not like it at all.

It won't be an SMG 'box on an 07, it'll just be the standard auto 'box (6 speed ZF) which is probably better TBH. It does have paddles to shift and a manual mode, but best left in auto, it'll be great.

You'd have to be seriously unlucky to have a problem with a steptronic 'box.

Buy it!!!!

Thanks guys, please accept my apologies for my lack of tech knowledge.... it is an steptronic auto with the paddleshifts on the wheel..... but in my defence even the salesman called it an SMG!

Thanks for the advice, have booked a weekend test just awaiting a free weekend in my schedule so I can play a bit....!
