Not sure if you could spec se suspension on a sport but that would've been easier. I've also noticed that quite a few sports come up as SE's on insurance quotes which is strange.

You could but it would still be a sport. Bring an SE might have been a lot cheaper to insure for the owner. That is the only reason I can se for doing what they have done though.

Chased the history on this one, was spec'd by Elm's BMW as a demonstrator... maybe they didn't want to put off potential new buyers with the extra stiff M sport suspension.
