Z4 roof

I've got a 2003 Z4, when I put the roof down it doesn't click Into place, any ideas how to fix this, thought I could live with it but seeing the gap when look in my rear view mirror and the rattle that goes with it is really starting to annoy me :headbang:

Didn't know they did lock into place, I thought it was just the hydraulics that held it down.
Ilk have to check mine, although it doesn't rattle.

The red light on the roof switch will flash when roof is reracted if its not locking into place.

That's actually not true. My top will complete the cycle, and the red light will extinguish, even though the top is not firmly latched into place. Someone else said it could be due to the fabric not folding correctly into the boot, causing it to bunch up and impede the latches from completely closing.

I have not yet figured out a solution :headbang:

03 and into 05 cars the roof locked down and into position. There were however issues with the lock and BMW put an advisory out to dealers with a fix if this was a problem. Problem persisted and BMW removed the 'lock' and relied on hydraulic pressure to hold the roof in the open position. As in other threads the problem appeared to be caused by an issue with the hood material not folding correctly as the hood retreated preventing full closure into the 'locked' position.

I have an 04 and 9 times out of 10 the roof retracts and locks but then on the odd occasion it doesn't and just requires a slight push down to lock. Never had a rattle even when not locked but would suggest checking how the roof material is folding to ensure it fully closes. Certakily no flashing roof light even when not locked in place.

MMMM, i think the micro switch confirms the roof isnt locked and the red light flashes..well it does on mine..then as you say..a push..locks into place and light goes out...........

My light does go out but there is a gap when the roof is down. I have tried pushing it down with a bit of pressure, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

mine never used to lock but i recently replaced the hydraulic motor and now it does... the old motor was slowly getting worse and i suspect didn't have enough power to lock it down.

i used to lock it manually though, which requires you to push it to the back and down, takes some effort.
