Z4 Roof wont go down

Hello all I am new here I have read as much as I can on rules but may have missed one or two things so please forgive any mistakes in advance :)
Any way my 2007 Z4 roof has packed up working the windows wind down roof unlatches but thats it, can anyone shed any light on the problem for me please?

You may want to check the parcel shelf switch is ok, and the parcel shelf is lowered. Additionally, you may want to look for the manual override in the boot (high up, orange pull, on the left hand side) and make sure that is not pulled out and twisted. If both of these are ok, you need to check if your roof motor has failed - a common fault due to blocked roof drains

Dum dum dum ........ another one bites the dust!

Do a forum search on roof motor - loads on this. You may be lucky but it's a knocking bet that your roof motor has failed due to water ingress. Particularly if your car hasn't been a garaged example.
 
Welcome along John, sounds like your motor has given up the ghost, there are quite a few threads on replacement iirc, good luck :thumbsup:

£310 for the part (motor)
you need medium torx and small socket sets
a covered space
a mate to help you lift off the roof entire once it has been disconnected
(I lifted it off on my own but I am not that precious about the paintwork)
I did ours in 5 hours and I could do it again in three
easy

Thinking about part exing it now TBH saves the graft :o
 
you would think so wouldn't you but experience tells me - arrangements, taking in the motor, prep, doing the actual work and then testing followed by a long period of fear that you did something wrong and the owner will be back with a list of niggles, it negates the joy of making a quick 100+ quid for a morning of concentrated effort.

Its a pity really because I like working on cars.
 
A facelift roof motor gone down? maybe not as sorted as was hoped.

I'm sure the guys are right about the motor but the the roof rail latches can go dry and not disengage properly, also the roof frame hinges, a squirt of light oil fixed mine and one or two others.

Good eye Finisterre. Looks like one of the three went to join Dorothy & Toto in the land of OZ as well. :hairdryer:
