Z4 roof not working

I have further spoken to the service reception manager and he told me that there is no hole to stick your hand down, and that they is no drainage blockage, but simply water damage to the motor. He said he was sorry that I was mis-informed.

He said that it is still not a warranty Item. I have asked him to put it in writing. Also BMW customer service UK have said that they have to go on what the dealer has said and she beleives that they can not escalate the issue. She will confirm later today !!

What can I do ? Am I stuck ? They offered a goodwill 50% discount. But it is still £450 !

Many Thanks in Advance.

Citizens Advuce Bureau can be a good place for help and they can often get you 30 mins with a solicitor for free. A failing roof motor can in no way be seen as fair wear and tear and I am sure not be excluded from your warranty. Get the 'goodwill' gesture offer in writing. As them to confirm why the roof motor is not a warranty item again in writing as this will be useful if you choose to take legal action. Ask BMW UK to confirm their position in writing. Letters are an excellent form of evidential proof if you choose to take it to court. Good luck.

BMW UK services say that Any damage to a BMW car due to Water Ingress is not covered under warranty. Does this sound right ? The dealer can not proove it is water ingress, but will not do anything unless I agree to pay for their time to remove the hood :-(

Can anyone provide me with instances i.e. which dealers have replaced fixed the hydraulic Motor due to Water Ingress under warranty ? And which dealers ?

Many Thanks in Advance
A fed up Z4 owner !!

im sure there will be an flood (pardon the pun) of people with exaples of warrenty repairs for you to take as examples- I ask those that do offer this reassurance to name the dealer and date so you can use this in your fight.

Theres a great thread on here somewhere (Shipkiller was it?) with piccies of one seriously corroded waterlogged motor being removed........if they take it out and it looks like that then you're half way there...?

Has anyone got a pic or diagram of what the drainage looks like in this area? I only ask because I wanted to give my hood a good clean in spring and was planning to partly retract it to clean out all the green shite that collects around the back, but if its going to simply drop into and block a drainage channel of some description... :(

Hi all

I have a 2003 Z4. I have not put my roof down since last summer. I tried for the first time this year and it has failed.

When holding the 'down' button the windows drop and the roof unlatches, it retracts about 1" but then stops completely. I have checked the shelf in the boot is in the down position and the microswitch seems to be working fine.

Is this definately a motor problem??
Is there an easy way to know for sure what the problem is?

Really appreciate anyones help

Thanks
