Z4 Roof Motor Replacement

Hi guys,

Had the local main dealer replace the roof on a 2003 Z4 last month. Ouch - but luckily covered by third party warranty. I've now had the cheque from the warranty company but they've minus'd about £100 worth of things they are refusing to cover.

Has anyone here had a roof motor replacement and did you need to change these parts? I'm trying to establish whether the dealer is in the wrong for replacing more than they ought to or the warranty company is in the wrong for not... covering the full replacement.

The disputed parts are:

54 34 7 122 951 WIRING 40.87+VAT
54 34 7 119 635 SOUND INSUL 52.61+VAT

I am now left wondernig if perhaps the dealer damaged the existing wiring and sound insulation during the work and then just... billed us for replacement.

Any advice?

Kind Regards!

to be honest, £100 even with warranty for that work is good - my folks had to get thiers done when the sills blocked up - $tealer wanted £1600 including labour.

Needless to say it ended up lower than that...

Warranty Direct. The £100 they are not paying doesn't include the £50 excess, the 10% parts contribution and the £44 'diagnostics' on a seperate invoice they seem to have ignored as well

(Though why BMW needed to spend an hour doing 'diagnostics' when I told them exactly what was wrong and it was frankly obvious I dont know).

Final bill from BMW was £810 inc VAT. Warranty company has sent a cheque for £566.

I dont understand what the 'Wiring' and 'Sound Insulation' is for and why they were replaced. Somebody else I've spoken to who DIY'd his roof motor said he didnt need any new wiring or sound insulation?

Cant answer your questions, but I think I've made my mind up now not to use Warranty Direct, will stick with BMW warranty.

The quote which came through for the BMW Warranty was ridiculous - it was about £850 a year to continue the same level of cover we got with the AUC warranty.

The difference to me would be around £100, but after your experience I could easily loose that, so "I'm out" as they say
