Z4 Ride

Well after 6 years without a Z i just picked up my 3rd, 1st time owning a 4 pot (2.0i) did my research and checked cam chain and all appears good, i have done some research but want to pick everyone’s brains, as it’s been six years and we all get older my wife is finding the ride a bit too firm (last one had adaptive suspension) want to keep this one for a few years so looking at options to make the ride more comfortable ( we sold her TT which handled brilliantly but really smooth ride over all roads). It doesn’t bother me but as we want it for touring it needs to more comfortable, wife say quote, my boobs feel like the are constantly jiggling from the road surface

If it has any bearing the tyres are Uniroyal rain sport 45/17s.

Any recommendations on tyres (if that could be the issue) or coil over recommendations welcome as would rather spend money on the car getting it right for us rather than just owning it short term as loving it

First thing to check is for run flat tyres, if you have them, swap them out for conventional ones ASAP.

Secondly, a lot of bmws of this era are very stiffly sprung, but under damped, resulting in a very harsh ride. Solution would be some aftermarket decent springs and dampers - not necessarily full coilovers, but better matched suspension from the likes of bilstein.

Currently on non run flat Uniroyal Rainsport but suspect the garage has put run flat pressures in them so checking tomorrow and hope that makes a difference

On 17 inch rims you are well placed for a comfort setup. Check the age of the tyres, and also you can do a comparison over at one of the tyre reviews sites. See how yours are rated for comfort, and if not great, pick one of the higher rated tyres. That might be all you need.

Next step would be looking at the suspension.

Lots of options out there for a more compliant ride & all of these are 10+ years old now, so the suspension will be very tired at best.

For a soft ride you're going to struggle to find much that is 'squishier' ..better handling tyres around but if you're focused on ride comfort thos tyres at 32/34 psi will be as good as it gets on a stock car.
