Z4 Replacement ?

What would you replace your Z4 with ?

I have been thinking about moving up to something with more power. What convertible sports car would you deem a step up but still in the same price range. I've looked at Mazda Miata, Older Honda s2000, the Nissan Z, the Corvette and the Porsche. Any that I'm missing ?

Overall I've been happy with my Z4 but I'm getting the itch for something new.

One of these ?

Or a Z4M?

How about a Lotus Elise?

Not as refined but with the Toyota engine it's a firecracker :driving:

This, or a VX220. Early Elise's had Rover engine in didn't they?

Wait for the Z2 and the Alfa Spider to be made, that's my plan but an Elise keeps calling to me.

I think the OP is in the US, so TVR , vauxhall and other euro options aren't available here. Audi TT / TTS / TTRS would be good too

Maserati Spider. 8)

Maserati depreciation means you can afford to buy one.

Ferrari engine means it goes like stink, but you can't afford to service it.

From someone that's owned a series 1 Elise (rover engine), a series 2 exige s (supercharged Toyota) and an s2000 - they are all very different cars.

S1 Elise with the standard 118hp rover K is an amazing package. Near perfect handling and much more rapid than you would imagine. I loved it to bits, but ownership is a real labour of love.

Exige s - a bit more refined but looses some of the raw basic magic from the s1 Elise. S1 exige is utterly nuts!

S2000 - a real engineering masterpiece in engine and gearbox terms, handling just downright dangerous. Very nasty 'active' camber angle changes on rear suspension compression making any pushing on very involving. Engine needs to be worked hard to come in to its own. Thirsty when compared to our 3.0 zed or either lotuses.

I'd have another s1 basic Elise in a heartbeat, as a toy only but prices are going up up up.

I have a s2000 for sale it's on auto trader at £4795 it's blue 79k I can't give you a link because I'm not clever enough to post a web link.

I do agree with itguys opinion on the s2k but its a real drivers car you can feel the road a lot more than the zed and the ride is a lot less crashy. If you give beans then quickly back off the throttle you do get a bit of torque steer. personally you don't need to spend more than 7 or 8 grand to get a fun two seater car because there's loads to choose from

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm a bit jealous of all of you on the other side of the pond - you have so many choices that are not available in the states.

Personally -
I don't like the Nissan Z.
I think the Mazda Miata is - well lets just say I won't consider it
The Honda S2000 is getting to old and hard to find.
The Elise is something I'm going to look for - very cool.
The MB SL55 is a worthy consideration and I will look.
The Corvette is extremely popular in the states and I'm looking.
I saw a Jaguar convertible yesterday and it looked promising.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.
