Z4 remote central locking

Hi all

So my Z4 central locking does not work on the remote.
However it works fine via the key in drivers door and the button in the centre console works fine also so i assume the GM5 module is good.

I thought the battery was flat so removed and fitted a new one which didn't help old battery tested 3.2v actually but replaced anyway.
This didn't work.
Tried the coding via turning ignition on then off and holding open for 15 seconds and pressing the lock button 3 times. Still no joy.

Checked all the fuses recommended on the forum all look good.

Not sure what to try next.?
Receiver/Rear view mirror?

Thank you

Jay

Hi mate

You sure the gm5 is ok? Mine still locked unlocked by central console button but gm5 was duff-

Gm5,typical signs.I may be be wrong but dont rule that out yet,the car i have had the same problem, sent gm5 off for repair, job sorted.

I saw on other threads its intermittent the gm5

Also that if the central locking works on the key and button it's unlikely to be the gm5 module

I was thinking it could be the receiver. Would love to know people's thoughts own experiences though

Not aware you should be holding the unlock button for as long as 15 seconds, when I sync my keys I use one of the following proceedures, holding the unlock button down immediately press the lock button 3 times, if one method dosn't work try the next, don't forget any other keys you have must be done immediately after each other so they get sync'd all the same.

Programming Additional BMW Key Fobs

So if you have a working key fob, but wish to program additional keys, follow these steps:

Take the working key fob along with the ones you want to program inside the car with all doors and windows closed.

Put the working key into the ignition and turn to position 1. At this point, the dash lights and accessories should turn on.

Turn the key back and remove.

On the working key, hold down the unlock button and press the lock button (the BMW logo) 3 times, then release the unlock button. The doors will then automatically lock and unlock.

Take the new key and hold down the unlock button while pressing the BMW logo 3 times, then release the unlock button. Again the doors should lock and unlock, and you’re done.

Programming a New Key from Scratch

These instructions are for programming a new key when you do not have a working key fob.

Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 and back rapidly 5 times.

Remove the key

Hold the unlock button and press the BMW logo 3 times, then release the unlock button.

If you have additional keys you’d like to program at this time, repeat step 3 within 30 seconds from the original key programming.

Turn on the ignition to complete the process.

It's just the one key but none of the attempts to sync that one key worked the doors didn't lock as expected.
Not sure if the keyfob doesn't work, the receiver
Or the gm module as people have said above

Thanks

Any one else had similar issue or can advice how to test if the remote is sending a signal?

Thanks

You need an RF meter. Most tire stores that can change TPMS sensors can check key fob RF outputs. The same tool that reads TPMS sensors can also read key fob RF output.
