Z4 Rear Window/Top Replacement

I just recently had some damage done to the rear window on my Z4. I’m not sure what caused it but the top right corner has a crack along the edge. I’m considering making a claim with my insurance but it is my understanding the entire top is typically replaced since the glass and top is one complete unit. I’ve already discussed the possibility with my insurance and they said it would be covered under my policy however I’m concerned about making a claim and it showing up on a carfax in the future and hurting the resale value. A top replacement can range anywhere from 3-7k (from what I’ve read). I would pay out of pocket to fix it myself if it comes down to the carfax but I really would rather not if it isn’t reported. Has anyone had experience with this? Or know the best option? Any tips or info you could give me?

I can't say about the insurance but I can give you accurate numbers on cost. Here's a quote I received last November from my local BMW dealer for a complete roof replacement. It was less than I expected.

3k is less that I expected too. I’m pretty sure there are specialist companies who can replace the glass on its own though. Can’t imagine it’s super cheap, but would be less that 3k for sure.

As for car fax. My calculation would be simple. 3k or possibly 500 off the car value?

Insurance is a scam of the highest order. Dare to claim and we will screw you over later.
