looking to get my z4 remap, have been qoute that, is will improve my bhp by 15-20 bhp
wonder has anyone got their's done b4 and what's the power gains, is there any improvement?
just want to have your's view is it worth for getting it done?
Remapping standard NA cars is usually pretty pointless. 15-20 sounds very optimistic and id expect more like 10hp PEAK increase and that is likely from an RPM limiter increase (power band moved upward).
Note that this won't be 10hp across the whole rev-range either, although the whole torque curve will generally increase (albeit very slightly).
You'll probably find that your mpg will increase very slightly if you drive the same as stock maps generally run a little on the rich side for safety.
I'd err away from remapping any half decent (ie, sporty setup) petrol NA engine, which BMW ones are...
Even more so on what is your 2.5Si, it's a Valvetronic engine and pretty damn good as it stands!
If you want real improvements things like sports cats and free'r flowing exhausts are the way to go for more torque all over, and more response all over... and they can be had for similar kinds of cost as the remaps will be.
As others have pointed out, there is not much to be gained. If you are deadset, look to a reliable tuning company such as ESS, Active Autowerks, HPF, and others that make remaps for the E90 body style. Honestly, I have to tell you that the maps are already very good, and you will not be able to beat them without a SIGNIFICANT outlay in aftermarket performance parts,,,,,, IE supercharger, turbo...
I have the turner motorsport chip. I mainly got it to take advantage of the increased airflow form the intake scoop that I make, but I did some testing witht he scoop off as well. The overall driveability of the car is greatly improved as well as the powerband. (no i didn't dyno it, just going off of feel, yes i know could be placebo but with the tests I did I doubt it)
I had a remap of a diesel turbo and the gains were fantastic.
NA petrol will never yield the same results but could increase torque throughout.
Remember that there is only torque. Power is just torque times revs. Ever noticed how every engine has same torque as revs at 5700 rpm?
The goal is to get more area under the torque curve. Even if it peaks at 10hp at some point, the improvement overall will make a difference.
I shall probably let my mechanic load the autologic tune via the standard connector next time I see him.
Naturally I shall report results but I don't expect it to be until Feb though.
thanks for the replys,
i do like the idea of increases in torque power, which i think is true that power= torque.
however i would hope i can feel the difference if it's were done, i just hope this will not be pointless!
One thing I have found is that the human brain is more sensitive to a minor loss than a minor gain!
You'll notice a loss of 10hp more than a gain of 10hp - personal life observation.
I think one of the benefs of the autologic options is that once your dealer has the tune he can take it off and reload it for you to test. You'll pay whether you keep it on or not but at least you can convince yourself of the change.
Autologic can also update all of the 'system software' on your car to the latest versions too. Bet your car is still on the version it left the factory with!
