Z4 pulls to left

Hi,

I've just looked at a '56 plate December 2006 1 owner 13k miles 3.0si sport Z4 roadster in sapphire black with champagne extended nappa, heated seats, tinted windscreen, folding mirrors, auto-dimming mirrors, hifi, cd changer and 108 composites. It's from a BMW main dealer and they want £17,600 for it.

I found the following problems though:

Pulls to left on test drive and front nearside tyre badly worn on inside edge (3 mm tread on inside and about 7mm on remainder). Offside tyre is ok.

Driver's seat leather worn on outer lumber support - looks dirty because the champagne finish has worn off.

Bonnet doesn't quite line up with the wing - when looking front-on, it seems about 2mm lower on drivers side with the wing. This makes the bumper look like it's pushed closer in on the driver's side, and there is also a bigger gap under the driver's headlight. It doesn't look like it's been repaired, but just a couple of mm out of true.

The paint has a few scratches, and polishing hazes but not too bad.

Does anyone know why it would be pulling to the left? Perhaps camber? Can the bonnet catches be adjusted to raise the bonnet on the driver's side?

Is £17,600 a good price for this car?

Any advice massively appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

Uneven panel gaps are not a good sign add to that the car is not handling correct is something to be concerned about.

Drivers bolster worn badly thats not normal for 13k

The pic below was taken in Jan when i bought my car a June 2004 model 1 owner from new 11.5k as you can see the seats are mint and the wear on the passenger bolster is identical to the drivers side and the car has now covered 17k and looks identical to the pic

Yeah I wouldn't go for it. Over here on this side of the pond missaligned body panels (your bumper not being correctly placed) is a good sign that for some reason the part was replaced or removed & reinstalled. Usually due to a wreck. Now in your case it could just be they put an aero bumper on and didn't pay close attention to that. But doubtful, that plus the fact that it pulls to one side. I would do like Dario said and move to another one. Unless the guy tracked it I see no reason why camber would be off like that on one tire.

On the plus side it's from a main dealer so they would fix any problems. Sort panel gaps replace tyres, check geometry, etc. and of course fix the pulling. However as said above given the current market unless this example is exactly what you are seekign I'd walk away and find another. Plenty around.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The only reason I'm even considering it is because it's the right colour combo with a good spec and I've been looking for ages! Any tips on where to find one? I've been looking on Autotrader, BMW web site, and pistonheads.

Thanks again,

Steve

Found mine on BMW UK web site and with that sort of budget you should be able to find a decent example be patient and wait for what you really want i did and was very worth while

BMW UK is the official web site for main Dealers in the UK they are the only people who can offer full BMW backing on a used car if you want that.
