Hello all. I ordered my new z4 on 2/25. I have gone into the owners circle and it says my car is schedualed or in production. It has said this for 12 days and counting. How long does it usualy take to produce the car? The dealer said I would have it in less than 30 days from order, but the days are passing with no headway being made. Thanks for any help I can get.

Getting accurate info about your car's progress is sadly not easy. From what we have seen in the factory video that aired on National Geographic it actually takes less than 2 weeks to build the car once it starts production. Your sales person can likely get you the scheduled date for when that starts. The OC website is not all that good for timely updates on what is happening. I found that it sometimes took days to see an update to the process on the OC site while my salesman could get daily updates. I drove the poor guy nuts by the time I actually got the car :roll:
For me the longest part of the process was getting it shipped to the west coast - mine got off the assembly line in mid Feb of 2007 and didn't make it to the west coast until the last week of March. I took delivery a week later in Portland, OR.

I just bought my z4 in February to take advantage of the $3000 incentive on 2008 models. The plan proposed to me by the dealership was that once Feb 1st came around and they confirmed that the incentive would continue from January, they would trade with another dealer for a production date in approximately the middle of the month; they assured me that the car should arrive well before the end of the month.
I was skeptical, but everything worked out exactly according to schedule. The car was built the week of Feb 11th, and it arrived in Wisconsin less than two weeks later. I picked it up on the 28th, but if I hadn't been out of town the previous week I would have been able to pick it up as early as the 22nd or 23rd.

It only takes 2.5 days to produce a Z4. Heck, it takes Dell longer to assemble my laptop. 
The rest of time the Z4's are sitting there, waiting for the trains to fill up (this could take up to around a week or 10 days) and being transported. Like others have said, it takes about 4~6 weeks for the car to arrive to your dealer after the car goes into production (not 4~6 weeks after you ordered the car).

Thanks for suggesting I contact my dealer for a better update. I just got off the phone with him and........WoooHooo!!!!! It finished assembly yesterday and is currently in quality check. Now for the bad news, acording to my dealer the VPC is backlogged with "thousands of 1 series" so it will take longer than normal to get through. At least I feel there is progress. Thanks for all your replies!
Ordered mine in May but it didn't arrive until August. Mind you, apparently they go on a boat from the US to the European distribution centre (I think it's in Germany or the Netherlands or somewhere). Then they go on a smaller boat to the UK distribution centre. Then they go to the dealer...
My 2.0i Sport has a production date of 20 June '06 and was registered and delivered to the first owner in Northern Ireland on 1st Sept...
