Z4 problems when warranty ends.. help!

Sods law I guess but with the end of my warranty, problems have started on my Z4!

Ok it does very little mileage and that is probably the issue here. I was greeted by a flat battery the other morning which was the start of the problems. I put the battery on a low volt trickle charge overnight.

The car now starts ok (although not convinced that the battery will not ultimately need replacing) but have noticed a few things have not been working since then. All seem to be centred around the heating system controls.

The heated rear window switch does not seem to come on any more (no light on switch) nor does the top right hand button (is this cool?). Also weirdly while the fan comes on it seems set at one speed with the dial not increasing or reduing the airflow (ie. can't get a good 'blast' if the windscreen is misted)

My first thought was maybe a fuse had gone, but there seems to be somewhere in the region of 4-5 fuses that would need changing to cover this and not sure that this would help the fan issue. I did try changing the two fuses for the rear window heater but to no effect.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

PS one other question while we are at it. I seem to have picked up what I can only describe as a 'shunt' to my passenger headlight. The light is not damaged but visably looks as though it has been pushed in from the front. I am guessing that it needs realigning and pushing further forward into the housing from inside the engine bay?

You can tell I'm not techincal but any help on this matter or pointers would also be appreciated!

Has the car reset itself to transport mode somehow?

Firstly, welcome to the forum!

I wonder if the battery is shot and the car knows it, so is cutting none essential services? Do they do that? IIRC Halfords offer a free battery test, and also sell decent batteries, with a good warranty should it need replacing (credit to CJ for that info).

On the headlight, it may have just snapped a couple of the lugs, these could well be still attached to the body of the car. It's not to hard to repair - I'm not that mechanical and I've managed it... I'm going to put a link in my signature to my mods, on page 1 there are pictures of the lights on the car (without) the bumper and pics of the lug repair too... again thanks to advice of others on here

Good luck! In the mean time... newbies forum for introduction and pics of your car  :poke:

Hi guys.

Thanks for the responses. I would say if definately sounds like the car has reset itself to transport mode... but I guess I should get the battery checked out first in case it goes flat again before I pay an arm and a leg for the dealer to flick a switch!

The lugs on the headlight sounds pretty plausible. I guess I'd best get my toolkit out and see whats happening there.

Best get a photo put up as well.... so much to do!

Thanks again... I'll let you know I get on.
