Z4 Pebble Beach Images released

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/bmw/bmw-z5-spyshots-first-look-at-the-next-z4-and-toyotas-new-coupes-too/

This confirms both manual and 4 cyl will be available (for those who like that sort of thing).

I did smile when I saw this earlier in the year. Hard to believe BMW would not stick that on the dash to increase intrigue or throw people off the scent.

The concept is a bit honda civic, too many angles and 'transformer vibe'
but... if only they were to make a coupe :fuelfire:
2018 z4coupe render.jpg

excited to see what the supra looks like!

Now were talking!
If someone could photoshop this in stratus grey or silver with some CSLs or m3/4 competition wheels.

Coupe looks much better IMO. Be nice to see a diff colour... que photoshop pro's!

I think that a little like the Audi TT, there will be premium options with 6 cyl and the sexy tft binnacle and 4 cyl with cheaper interior. Note the lack of leather seats. Either way, if its within £10k of a used i8, the Z4 may not be that enticing.

Remember 911's are now pretty much £100k out of the showroom, and Boxsters are £60kish...it'll try to steal sales from the unloved 718...and will probably be very successful.

I'm not so sure. It will more than likely be berated for the same reasons as the 718 - for being too expensive for a 4 cylinder :D

I think the new F-Type has a problem with that, too.
Agree that the F Type is getting in trouble on the user websites and I was not having a 4cylinder Porsche. With the F Type basically a 300hp 4 cylinder for a few grand less than a V6 supercharged 340hp. Doesn't fit the image of high end sports cars either. Still neither did diesels, hybrids, autos and a whole host of other stuff, but we accept it and will have to on sports cars to allow manufactures to shift metal and comply with Co2 restrictions.

It will be interesting to see where BMW end up taking this between concept and showroom in slimming down to a price point or moving upmarket for less sales but more valuable ones. I think the latter

The four cylinder in the 718 doesn't bother me tbh. At least all the range are four cylinder and it gives a distinction between the 911, which has been a long time coming to draw a line between the two models. It's still much better than the Z4's four cylinder. But, like you said, that's just how things are going regarding emissions etc. Eventually we won't have combustion engines so it seems to be the price of "progress". The number of new cars in the sub £40k or maybe even £50k bracket, certainly seems to have dwindled in the past few years.

If BMW are wondering whether to put a tin top on the new z4, then I hope theyve been to the aston stand... #breadvanrevival

Looks great. Very curious about the price point this will be released in. A lot of previous press has suggested they will be raising the entry level price quite significantly over the previous model. It looks a lot more premium than any BMW at the old E89's price point. I've seen one more recent price suggestion at a £35K starting point, which seems unrealistic.

You'll probably find it'll be a similar weight to the E85 (with all the new lightweight materials) and so i suspect it'll be just as Nimble - i'd like to see any new Z4M south of 1400kg
:)

It looks interesting, however I have a few problems with all new cars, first they have far to much technology built in which makes them an absolute nightmare for long term ownership (over 10 years), and second they are designed by comittee.

This can clearly be seen in the concept, someone saw the front lower bumper intakes off the merc and added those, then another comittee member remembered the bonnet vents off the TVRs and those were added, then they remembered it is a Z4 so added the Z4 side lines.

SadlyI think this will be much bigger than e89...
I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with that (at the moment anyway) - I know that the only thing that's been shown is the concept car and a lot of things can change between the concept and the production model but, from the photos I've seen of people standing around the concept car, to my eyes at least, it actually looks slightly smaller than the E89

...time will tell...

Morning I bought Autocar yesterday and BMW are quoted as saying that its largerin an attempt to position it more upmarket which makes me wonder about price , its a bit dissapointing this obssesion with ever larger cars :(

I wish BMW would prduce a proper roadster/sports car in a similar vein to the MX5/Lotus Elan thats compact and lightweight instead of producing lardy efforts that are no good except for cruising. When I owned the E89 at no point did it ever feel like a sporty roadster, my Z3 was better in that respect. The new Z4 looks to be going exactly the same way.

I'll be looking for another roadster in 3 years time and might go for the MX5 as they seem to be the only manufacturer who can do it properly without it costing a fortune.

Tim.

Seeing recent shots im convinced the car will not look that much like the concept and will be heavily toned down, which is a shame.
