Z4 paint durability

Okay, anyone getting paint damage on the edge of the driver's door? (I am normally a solo pilot). I'm talking about the far side of the door when the door is open - the edge that would rest on the car next to yours (didn't do this often, only on my other car, the Fiesta, but I avoid doing this now). Is this what Sticks was talking about - the door threshold?

I opened the door and very gently rested it on the car next to me a few times over a couple of weeks and noticed paint coming off the edge I put the two together and blamed myself.

You rest your car door against other peoples cars ? your the reason i do not use car parks :x

Guys - I don't think that's very fair, I'm talking about gently resting the door of my Z4 on my other car, not on other people's cars. This was arising because of a width restriction in the drive when there was an extra car and I was trying to keep car a good distance from other reversing cars. I don't do it other times other than at home - I choose a wider space!

mine has similar paint damage in that area and i thought that it was due to the previous owner doing what you describe.

I also had issues with the area in which the rubber boot seal sits. there was no lacquer or even top coat in some areas. you could see the undercoat. consequently rust started to develop.

its an 03 and i just managed to get it dealt with under the 6 year anti corrosion warranty - with about a week to spare.

the after sales at the local deal was fairly blank faced when i showed him at first but then when the area BMW guy came to see it he let slip that he had seen this before.

A BMW indy told me he'd seen this before too and that BMW had some dodgy phases with their paint quality and finish. i have notice that the lacquer on the wing, just on the return as it goes into the bonnet - so effectively the corner of the seam where the bonnet meets the wing isnt too good. similar to the door edge.

Apart from that, after 65K it has a bit of road rash on the bumper and a couple of chips that have been temporarily dealt with. will get it all professionally cleaned up when summer gets closer.

AFAIK all E85 and E86 cars were built (at Spartanburg, SC) in the US, without exception. Even our right hand drives.
My Interlagos Blue MC does seem to develop more small scratches than my other BMW's, despite careful use and lots of TLC.

The E89 is assembled in Regensburg Germany, for all markets.

Thinking about it, the chip marks on the E86 are probably due to two factors:
1) The colour is darker than my other cars, so chips are more visible;
2) Generally it gets driven at higher speeds than the others, so stone impacts occur with higher force.

Anybody know where I can order an Interlagos Blue "chip kit" = "touch up paint" online?

Evening all,
Just wondering what peoples experiences are so far regarding the paint quality/ durability of the Z4? the reason I ask is that my current car (VW) whilst only an 05 plate with 48K miles is peppered with small paint chips and blemishes all over, I seem to notice more each time I wash her.

Mine is protected at all times with a very thick layer of dirt. Stone's never get as deep as the paint
