Z4 on X5 Alloys ?

I owned both cars and sets of wheels, a 2000 E53 on style '63 and Z4 on 108's

The E53 are 19" and come in at a hefty 16.2kg & 15.2kg
108's are 18" and are 14.4kg and 13.8kg
That an extra 6kg of unsrung weight and worst it's further from the centre of rotation on bigger rims increasing the issues

You can run these arguments about weight as much as you want and pretty much justify anything and you'd probably never even notice on a 3ltr car in normal driving, but my personal opinion is an X5 wheels were designed and built for a 2 tonne SUV and that what they look right on. Equally 108's on a X5 wouldn't look right either

However if anyone likes the look of them it's their car to customise and enjoy

I'd like someone to weigh a stock 108 with a run flat to compare rather than just using internet figures.

I know they are a bit heavier, but ditching the run flat may compensate for that.

I posted above that there is very little difference in driving the car other than slightly heavier steering, no change in MPG either.

Ok, I've not actually weighed anything but according to RealOEM (bare wheels);

Elipsoids 107s are - F 13.05kg & R 13.150kg
Split rim 5 spoke stars 108s are – F 12.99kg and R 13.15kg
M Spec 224s are – F 12.15kg or 11.9kg post 12/07 and R 13.65kg or 13.2kg post 12/7. Love to know why the 224s were changed and made lighter as most M's on the road were built before 12/07 so unless they've had their wheels changed their running the older slightly heavier version.

Anyway back on topic, at F 15.2kg and R 16.3kg the type 63s are massively heavier, this will be further compounded by the bigger heavier tyres needed. I assume the wheels need the extra strength/material to support the weight of a 2 ton plus SUV.

It reminds me of when my wife had a R56 Mini and a certain type of 18 inch aftermarket wheel was all the rage on mini forums etc (looked quite like the type 63s actually). We got a set and boy were they heavy compared to the standard 17 inch ones with runflats, even with normal tyres on.
The car looked really cool but it didn't drive as nice and we eventually reverted back to stock. However most owners loved them and kept them on. Its very subjective this sort of thing, some will love the difference they make to the drive, some wont even notice (there the ones you really worry about! ) and some will think "I've ruined it, back to stock ASAP!"

To be honest the loss of tyre sidewall between 18 and 19 inch will be fairly detrimental and the extra weight will just compound things further but if you like them and aren't bothered or actually like how they make the car feel then fill your boots!

"fatmikey" also went for X5 alloys on his E86 , visually quite some success id say  though not without some trial & error on tyres , springs & arch liners to avoid chaffing

Think the tiger claws look fantastic on the Z, and as for the weight I personally don't think you'd ever notice. I'm pretty sure your not doing timed stages from work to home. get a set and enjoy

That's interesting. Is there any way to tell? Different part numbers? Or is the only way, to put them on scales?

They do have different part numbers. No idea what/why they changed the wheel but if the part numbers are stamped on the wheels your in business

Stick to following the sheep and let others make their own choices :driving:

So what's so wrong with folks actually having the facts before blindly leaping into something?!
Quite frankly I'd rather be a sheep than ruin a car out ignorance or some desperate need to be different! :headbang:

Plenty of people have already given the facts... you just came along to try ridicule people because its something you don't agree with

Oh I get it now the can't tell the difference comment. It wasn't aimed at anyone and the rest of what I said was factual info . But if you want to take it personally and you think the cap fits well that's your issue not mine!, :headbang:

It clearly was aimed at me too late to backtrack. Tosser.
I didn't back track. I just pointed out it wasn't aimed at anyone but if you think your too stupid to notice the difference then it's not me who's the tosser is it! While we are at it your earlier comment about me turning up after others had given the facts just to ridicule. Did you even read the thread dumbass! I was the 4th person to comment, before anything from you and I was the first to mention and quote some wheel weights! So wtf are you going on about?!
As for name calling, he's a few for you. Paranoid! Muppet!

Well I think they look great on your Coupe bradz.

I can't see extra weight being that much of a problem on the road, and you don't use them on track anyway!

In fact the extra weight may mean there is a 19 inch option that won't get trashed when you hit a pothole.
