Z4 on track.

Hi, Thinking about taking my Z4 to brands for the evening towards the end of the month. Has anyone taken their non M - Z on track? How do they cope.

- I have about 5mm tread all round on tyres and a spare set at home to replace soon.

- Have just fitted new front brake pads and discs less than 1000 miles ago.

- Will be having oil service this week.

So do you think it will cope ok? only thing I am concerned about is the brakes might not be up to the job? would it be worth putting uprated fluid in before the event?

Nothing to fret about, check your tyre pressures are ok all round, you may wish to drop them a couple of pounds to allow for an increase in pressure brought about by the rise in tyre temperature, other than that just be aware that the brakes will get a good pounding. If you are going to track your Z on a regular basis then I'd get your fluid upgraded,if not just stick with you normal stuff and drive with a little respect of that. The main thing,HAVE A BL*^DY GOOD TIME............ :D

Track events around here recommend changing the brake fluid before AND after a track day, and everything else bishurv said. Have fun.

Is it your first time out on a track? If so, you might not push the car as hard as others. At any rate, I would say at a minimum bleed your brakes a week (or less) before the event. Other than that our cars hold up pretty well. I just took a look at the circuit map - looks like long straights followed by hard breaking....you'll probably end up with brake fade so pay attention to how hard your pressing your brake pedal vs how much your stopping (horrible explanation I know). If your putting the pedal down and not slowing much at all, time to take it easy for a lap or two.
I always start the track day by checking tire pressures before I leave to the track, topping the tire pressure to 2psi over what I normally run, then check the tire pressure after each session - keeping it at that psi over. There is a metric ton of info on tire pressures at the track (various places around the web) and I tend to get lost reading it.

I'm sure the big track junkies will chime in and give you better advice.

BEST advice:
Like others said, go out, have fun, enjoy the day

a track day sounds great but i think i would be to scared

have fun, report back
