Z4 on the new series of Topgear

Anyone seen the trailer that was on the BBC this evening?

Looks like a Sterling grey zed will feature in one of the episodes.

Can't remember what Jeremy thought of the pre facelift e85 - I doubt he was a fan!

Yep spotted than, Clarkson said the ride was to hard, Hamster liked it. That was when they compared a Z4 - S2000 and Boxster if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure I'm having my testicles surgically removed without anaesthetic rather than waste an hour of my life watching these three turkeys play Komedy Kars.

There were two episodes with the e85 Z4 in it.

One was in 2003 when Hamster did an exclusive test with it, he loved it. Said it grips like mad.

The second episode came a year or two after where they did a 3-way Roadster comparison with the Z4, S2000, and Boxster. They all agreed the Z4's suspension was horrible. Captain Slow liked his Boxster.

A few years later they tested in the Z4 M Roadster against a Boxster. It was a love/hate thing. Hammond again loved the Z4 M even if it wasn't as refined as the Boxster, he found it more entertaining.

And most recently was the e89 Z4 which was compared to the 370Z I believe.

I like top gear as an entertainment show but would never take into account anything they have said when choosing a car as the do seem to focus more on ther own opinions (and ego's) than they do the car.
A general rule of thumb is if Clarkson hates it then it's probably worth having.

I love top gear, they have the best job in the world I think. but clarkson is a tool, he's just annoying when he's being knowngly ignorant.

it's a very brief glimpse
but given it's probably an e89 Z4, it's more likely to be Space Grey, since Sterling grey isn't available. Pedantic I know.

But it's hardly a new car, I'm curious to know what sort of comparison/test it will be in.

and for the record, I find the puerile humour of jeremy clarkson rather funny

Nope - was a sterling grey e85 as noted above.

Guessing there will be a which convertible test as have seen an older boxster on another trailer.

I find Jeremy to be quite hilarious actually. And as stated above he does have the best job in the world. Raping new exotic cars and going on wild Road trips...

I'm guessing that they have reached the value where they will destroy it somehow...

Could be good if you selling your Z4, listing it just after it features on top gear. I remember when the featured the hiluxes the second hand price of them rocketed!

Maybe they were showing an old slip where they compared the sterling gray e85 with the boxster & s2000?

Think the boxster and s2000 comparison was with a Maldives blue zed.

It was only the briefest of screen shots but I would guess it's an under £10k convertible test of some sort.

Would agree - I expect that episode won't be as popular around here once they've turned it into a boat, or at the very least filled it with water.

After all the praise they give the Boxter over the Z4, I'd like to think I'd enjoy the Boxter. But then I remember them saying the Z4's brakes weren't up to par. (I don't golf). So I upgraded brakes, got some new poly bushes, and new tires. IMO based on stock track vehicles (from the vid) I like my Z4 now...

God I hope Ill get to stay after my wedding and attend numorous track days (I got promoted)

The E85 was the first ever BMW to go in the cool section of the cool wall, Clarkson doesn't hate it as much as he pretends too.

not fussed about watching top gear, they're trying too hard to be entertaining instead of just being entertaining. The show peaked some time ago. I quite like clarksons comments but only for entertainment value little else. If the program makes cars fun for people great, personally i can't imagine i'll be too upset if i miss the show, kind of with Lacroupade on this one.
They've done most things worth doing and it all feels a little too contrived. Hope the show is better than i imagine.

yeah,me too..after fitting front strutbrace,non-rft's,etc over 2yrs ago,it transformed the poor ride(on rft's),to a very good one, with better turn-in than ever......easily an equal to the boxster,or anything else (pity bmw didnt sell it with non-runflats,and have a strutbrace ftd as standars.
they wouldv prob sold a load more/hey-ho :)

There are quite a few cars in the shot with the E85 Z4. I hoping they only give it a mention and it survives.
The Boxster in another trailer is a 98/99 S-reg and seeing as they're picked it to drive somewhere, I'm guessing it won't survive the show in one piece. They can be cheap to buy if not run at that age. After buying the Z, I sold my near-mint top-spec 2002 Boxster for only £7.5k to the only person who phoned. As an ex-owner, I'd rather they didn't wreck the Boxster they have.
