Back in May I was considering selling the Alpina as the mileage is creeping up, so I got it spic & span and ready for the big English/Welsh meeting at Cotswold BMW in June thinking it a good opportunity to float it there a little whilst there was a large gathering of Zed enthusiasts.

I had some planning to finalise at the showroom, so dropped the Alpina up there the night before and parked it up in the underground car park. Seeing it there, all gleaming and admired by many, I started to have serious doubts about letting it go and these were later confirmed when I had the opportunity to put the car on the turntable and watch it spin under the lights later on that Sunday afternoon.

However, a few weeks before, myself and the wife had a weekend away in Derbyshire and I'd popped into see my good friend Darren Slone, who having just bought a ///M Coupe had hinted that he may be selling his low milage ///M Roadster. Darren got the car out of it's bubble, and presented it for a test drive before we all went out for dinner that evening. After a few conversations we agreed a deal and that Darren would continue to keep the car stored up North for me until late July, which would give me time to sell the Alpina and make some space at home and a deposit was transferred.

August came and collection day arrived so I travelled North. We popped it down to his local garage for a fresh MOT (no advisories) before I brought it back South. The Alpina is now still sat firmly in its home under cover, so the up shot is that the Alpina and the ///MR are now stable mates and will be for a long time to come hopefully.

Just to add to the dilema, whilst this was all going on 2Dogs also offered me his beautiful Interlagos ///MCoupe complete with Aeros & CSL's. As much as I'd have like to, I just couldn't make it work with timing's finance and storage/parking, so I had to let it go and eventually he PX'd it, which is probably a blessing in disguise, but a full set would have been lovely.

Having owned the Alpina for nearly 5 years now, I've always wanted to experience and ///M, so I'm looking forward to the last of summer and seeing how they compare.

PS. Mr Wilks - Notch me up one on the multiple zed chart please !

Golden rule Alan , never buy a car off a travelling salesman

Its a great car you got yourself there :) looking forward to seeing it again sometime soon :driving:

Very nice! I never liked the look of the Alpina, but that changed when I saw yours in the English/Welsh meet, absolutely stunning.

Super looking car Alan, you’ll have to bring it down to the Haynes meet via Smartbear Towers for a coffee

Wow - 2 stunning Zs.

It's good to see Darren's has gone to another enthusiast.

Yes, Dazzer could sell Ice to the Eskimo's

Thanks for all the nice comments chaps. More Pics will follow soon I expect but it's difficult to get both out on location together.

Also, I taxed the ///M for August (£49 per month) and sorned the Alpina (£22/month !!) Crazy diffference :?

Congrats, your well placed now for giving us all an objective comparison. It will be interesting to hear what you think

Very nice Alan. Quite a choice to make when you’re going out for a drive. Looking forward to hearing your comparison between the two.
