Z4 Newbie....... Runflats etc.

Afternoon all,

I have just purchased a Z4 2.2, very pleased with it so far. I am after a few pointers.

One tyre needs replacing and have looked at some Bridgestone runflats, has anyone used these or have any recommendations for alternatives? The car obviously doesnt come with a spare wheel, but is a space saver available - or do I even need one?

Next question; I was planning to get BMW to check the roof gutters, and rear springs. Its next oil service is due in 8000 miles, is there anything else that would be worth getting them to check?

Thanks

Bridgestones will get a big fat NO from most of us. Good tires, don't last very long and there are better out there. The rest of the boo-birds will be around to tell you to ditch the runflats. Some of us like the safety and convenience of them but have chosen to go with Michelin PS2 ZPs. Pirelli has a runflat, iirc and Kumho has developed one. Do a search on tire sites and see what's available.

Do a search here, there are lots of threads on tyres/tires.

welcome- do a search re tyres- many have swapped to non rft- others are on non bridgestone rft, im still on bridgestone, i just like to keep the car the same on all four corners and never fancied replacing all 4 at once £££££££
2.2 great engine ( what did u pay out of interest? spec? milage etc)
welcome again

welcome and congrats on the purchase :D

Bridgestone RFT are shite, crashy hard and horrible... Michelin ZP run flats are much better but what size do you need ? I wouldnt also just change one tyre to a different brand or kind...

and have a search - AlanJ has a great check list in his signature..

Its a late 53 reg, with 40k miles. Managed to get them down on price aswell.
Not sure totally on spec but has air con, usual trip computer etc etc, 2 lady owners, no knocks or rattles, and yes the engine is superb.

One thing I have noticed, the doors seem to make quite a loud noise when shut. Checked for rattles etc in the door but everything seems alright. Some wear on the drivers seat leather but nothing I cant sort out.

Tyre size I need is 225 50 16. Ideally would have like some bigger but the rest of the car is in such good condition for the price I went for it.

Welcome, congratulations on your new Z4!

I have Bridgestone runflats all round, that with the 18" rims and suspension makes the ride very, very firm compared to what I've just replaced with my Z4 (a 1.6 ford focus) - Grip isn't bad, but I've not taken mine 'to the limit' or anywhere even close just yet, still getting used to it.
