Hi everybody first post

I'm going to see an m coupe this weekend but just wondering if there are any main things to look out for?
One thing that has me a wee bit worries is that the car was advertised only on Gumtree where as if it was my pride and joy I'd have it on a forum or at least pistonheads/autotrader.

Also when arranging viewing the seller asked where I would like to meet as opposed to just giving me his address, also says the car is Monaco blue which I'm sure is very rare?

The description was also rather sparse

"BMW Z4M Coupe, Monaco Blue, two tone leather, Heated front seats, with full service history including its 1200 mile service. Standard Features - 18'' M double spoke alloy wheels, SAT NAV. Alarm, Automatic air conditioning/automatic air recirculation, Multi CD player and Aux cable, Dynamic stability control plus, Elec adjustable front seats- drivers with memory, Electric windows, Headlight washer jets, Interior light package - Z4, M Sports seats, M leather steering wheel, Multi function for steering wheel, Nappa leather upholstery."

Doesn't really mention the usuals like tire and brake conditions. He said its last service was 7.5k miles ago and it has done 52k miles so I'm guessing that will have been inspection 2?

Says he's had it 18 months and thinks there were 2 prior owners, surely he would know how many owners there have been if he has fsh?

All comments appreciated :)
Maybe I'm just being paranoid lol!

I'd ask for full service history so you don't waste your time going to see a lemon. All sounds a bit off to be honest. Meet in a public place and leave any dosh elsewhere, preferably with a mate nearby whose built like a gorilla.

Also he is asking £14,390 is this reasonable?

Depends on the car but seems an odd figure to ask for?

Go on condition and service and you won't go far wrong.

Have asearch on here for the full service schedule, off the top of my head I can't remember exactly what it is.

If I'm buying it won't be happening on the day as I'll need to take out a personal loan to buy it, he says that he stays right in the city centre of Edinburgh and that he would be happy to meet me on the outskirts to save me coming all the way in, (the traffic is a nightmare) and it's only 30 miles from me so not like its a major trek. Taxed and mot'd last month so if there's problems they can't be that bad?

This is the hopeful positive side of me speaking lol

Just check the service, be pre-armed so you know the service history is A1.

If it isn't and you buy it you'll have more chance of selling a s**t covered football when / if you come to get rid.

Take a drive and have a big read on here and the M power forum on pistonheads. Personally I'd only buy one from on here as you can usually find out every little thing that has been done / gone wrong. A wrong'un is a money pit.

Good luck

It's on Autotrader.

If you want a second opinion on it, I'd be happy to check it out for you. I'm in Edinburgh.

Take this mans very kind offer!

This one? http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/bmw-z4m-coupe/1038066112#photo-content

Plenty of pictures within the advert and an ok description which is a good sign. What you have to remember is that the majority of people haven't the first clue when it comes to selling their cars. Terrible description and awful pictures taken on a phone that are out of focus. Then you have the flowery writers that tell you how good 'she' is like its their girlfriend :headbang:

The only worry here would be if its a cloned advert or the bloke selling his wife’s car as they are getting a divorce and he doesn’t have the right to it.

All usual rules apply as per any car buying. Check every little detail. HPI, chassis number and check with BMW. MOT numbers and see them. If you do go and see it go to the owners house. If all checks out take it to BMW or a specialist to have them check it over for you.

Its a market price not good but not bad. I like the two tone interior.

GL

Adamski great shout about autotrader I never even noticed it on there it must have been pretty recently put on.
That's put me at rest a bit, stupid as it sounds the pictures are a lot better quality and I can actually see the car. He said reason for sale is because he and his girlfriend recently moved back up from London and they are looking for something a bit bigger..

My dad's going to be coming with me and he knows a fair bit more than me. How could you give me a 2nd opinion? Don't want you stealing it from under my nose  :D lol

Have a look at the 3.0l vs Z4M I've written an in-depth post on there of what to look for

I wouldn't nick it off you. Not looking for a car just now. Just offering a helping hand from a zed owner - it's a good community spirit on here.... :)

I was only kidding mate lol, I've been desperate to get an m coupe for the last year so have been reading on here without actually joining until today. It seems a really good community

Another quick Q, I was planning on wrapping it alpine white, thus protecting the existing paintwork and being the colour I want. Good or bad idea?

First of all your mad if you don't take the option to have a respected forum member look over it, I would of paid good money for this when buying mine.

In terms of a wrap I would go for Mat white, alpine white will be gloss and will show scratches for fun (as do all gloss colours). I think it would look great too.

It would be brilliant if Adam could give it a look over, I'm going to see it on Sunday at 2 so not sure how we could work something out. Hopefully we can though :D
