'Hello', from not so sunny Scotland.

As the title states I'm a Z4 Newbie. I just picked my car up today. Although, it was bitter sweet.

The sweet: Power, handling, looks, the seats and seat warmers are great for my bad back. Boy I think I'm going to love this car. :driving:

The not so sweet: Oil leak from rocker cover gasket (suspected), steering wheel judder on hard breaking, steering wheel needs refurbished including the plastic trim around the MFS buttons, headlights are cloudy on the outside and full of condensation, and the fog lights are functioning well as aquariums. :headbang:

I think the car has been sitting for a while and as such has a bit of a musty smell going on. It really needs a deep clean inside and out. Which I will get done if it ever stops raining.

Anyway, just wanted to say 'Hi' and sorry for posting on the Technical forum before I had posted here. I just panicked when I saw the oil leak. I will get pics uploaded when the aforementioned weather skedaddles.

Regards
Will

Hi and welcome.

It's a shame your car has some issues, but hopefully it was priced to reflect them.

Facelift foglights all do that - I did what someone on here suggested and just drilled a few holes in the bottom of the lenses. It sounds like a bit more of a bodge than a fix, but they stay clear now!

Black with red sounds great - so we need photos.

Hi, thanks for the advice.
I have just looked over the "How To", regarding drilling the fogs. I think I'll give it a go.

Although I just discovered the following:

Hi, I did buy it in Glasgow but the previous owner lived in Cheshire. Although, they may have also had a short haired white dog as I have came across a few whilst out cleaning it.
I bought it from Great Western Motor Company. It appears they got it from Glasgow Central car auctions, as I found the auction window sticker under the drivers seat today. I could have bought it at auction myself and saved myself a lot of money, oh well :o :-x

Hi Guys

I thought I would update my thread. I didn’t want to clutter the place up with constant new threads with every minor change I make to the car. So thought my first forum post may be the best place to keep everything together. I have made a few changes.

1. My oil leak has been taken care of :D

20190311_152144-min.jpg

20190312_142751-min.jpg

20190312_142800-min.jpg

2. I have drilled three 4mm holes in the underside of the fog lights, to hopefully drain the water away. I would post a picture of this, but the fogs are so bad you can’t see the holes. Hopefully in a few days I will be able to add some pics where the holes are visible.

3. I swapped out the OEM aerial for the below: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BMQO7VY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4. I changed the number plate lights. The OEM lights were fine, but just not quite white enough: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-LED-Licence-Number-Plate-Light-No-Error-1-6-Z-Series-E81-E87-E63-E64-E85-E89/282117811343?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Sorry, but I forgot to get a shot of the OEM bulbs.

So far, all pictures taken of the car are on a SGS8. So, not the best. The above night shots do not do the lights justice. They are super bright, almost too bright.

Changed the badly corroded wiper blades to the below:

Heads up though, the passenger side 20" is too long and does not make full contact on the glass when in the down position.
I have yet to test these at motorway speeds.

https://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bosch-sp21s-super-plus-spoiler-wiper-blade

https://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bosch-sp20-super-plus-wiper-blade

I also changed the sticky Parrot Control Pad for the cars MKi9100. It appeared someone had spilled something on it, quite disgusting.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003TJTLUY?ref_=pe_3187911_248764861_302_E_DDE_dt_1

Now it's working like new. I am able to stream from Spotify with this and the reception is spot on. :D

Time for that well needed detail. Weather permitting.
