Z4 needs a winch

At least then i could get it off the driveway! It was meant to go into the stealers today as well but its snowed in, oh well...

Well this is the first time I've had the Z in the snow as I've only had it 3weeks, and it wasnt a good experience, the backend just seemed to want to swing to the front all the time!

all i managed in my efforts was to get in, select reverse go one foot sideways, so i got back out.

I did slightly better and go to work, but I had mega issues getting out of the private carpark at my house!!!

Days like this I'm glad I work from home!

Z tucked up all nice and warm in its garage

Im glad I have the option to work at home - usually use the trains but we know how useless they are at the meerest hint of snow, let alone an inch or two :o

The zed hasn't moved, has a nice coat though :D

I can walk to work but had the car booked in at a garage just down the road to get the front bumper touched up. I risked it and drove the 1.5 miles there, had a scary moment when my lights went green and i had to pull out onto a busy road and all i could do was go sideways.

Z4 + 255 Rear wheels = Quite possibly the single worst car EVER in the snow  I once slid down our road (steep, no cars, no grit) at around 45degrees at walking pace, ABS kicking, waved at the gobsmacked post-lady whilst i was looking toward the kerb. I could almost hear the DSC system whispering "You're on your own mate!" Thank goodness there was a dry spot of tarmac where a car had recently left. Aimed for that and the car immediately stopped - PHEW!

Mine stayed at home, i opted for a 40 min walk!

My commute was reasonably trouble free this morning, the only trouble I had was shifting the three inches of snow without the aid of a scraper; I had to improvise by using the flat end of a tube of sun block. It worked surprisingly well.

Thankfully there weren't any uphill gradients until I got to the main roads (which had been gritted and were clear and pleasantly empty), otherwise it would have been a different kettle of fish.

When we had snow back last month, the Z4 stayed home. We also have a nice, big, heavy, 4wd Ford F150 for days like that.

I didn't even bother this morning. I know the M1 will be a mess in this kind of weather and getting the car out of my driveway would be next to impossible, it's probably a little steeper than RobDavey's.

I'm having a day off instead, I wasn't going to walk for half an hour to get to a train service that will be hectic, only to walk another 20 minutes to the office at the other end. I hope the snow clears quickly, otherwise I could be stuck for a few days

I may have to go out and atleast clear todays snow from the driveway so it doesn't ice up tonight.

Mine got stuck on the slope coming out my underground carpark, untill I turned off the traction control and powered myself up it. Then once I got to work I did a power slide into my parking space. Loads of fun!

Working from home - ah what a joy
Zed tucked up in the garage and X5 performed as it should and got me to the gym... Still even 4WD, with a 3.0i and wide tyres the X had it's dashboard lit up like a christmas tree each time I tried to have some fun. :headbang:

Ahh... I just couldnt resist taking mine out in all that lovely clean snow.

As expected, sliding around all over the place... neither could I resist turning off the DTC+DSC to do a few choice donuts in the empty supermarket car park near me...

Its quite good to do anyway, just to get you to properly control the throttle and brakes, rather than relying on the electronics to get you out of trouble or help you to pull away.

1.4l engine, 4x4 and thin tyres were OK here! :P

I managed to get to work and luckily they let us go at 1.30pm to avoid a second load of snow.

Going up one of the side roads I turned the DTC on only which deffinately helped get me up the hill all the while the light kept flashing and I was only doing about 3mph but it did the job and got me to the top. The strange thing was that on roads that looked relatively OK the front steering was very light and didn't feel like I had much traction so I just kept the speed right down which didn't impress some of the front wd cars with small tyres that were doing alot better than me.

Must admit I used this tactic also on some of the backgrounds- I had FWD white van man up my ar** when I had to drive some backroads and noticed the steering going light. Overall my journeys were very successful today but it sounds like the Z4 isn`t a car for snow. I only fitted new tyres last week so maybe that helped a little - lots of tread depth.

I am a little concerned for tomorrow morning. I might go to work a little late, it`ll give time for the peasants to drive on the snow for me and hopefully condition if for me to drive along nicely on
