Z4 most reliable sports car in the world

I enjoy my 2007 Z4 3.0SI, it is my second Z4 last one was a 2004 3.0SE but both have had roof motor problems, headlamp bulbs and of course the rear springs.
I had my 1992 MR2 bought 2nd hand in 1994 for 4 years never even changed one bulb, only tyres and brake pads, thats what I call reliable.

We had a Mazda 323 bought new in 1985 and we sold it in 2005 and nothing went wrong on the car and it never let us down.
I'm on my 3rd 1 Series and all have been completely reliable apart from a DPF filter going on the 118d covered under warranty. My Z3 is 13 years old and in my 6 years of ownership have had to replace the boot wiring loom and the original battery gave up 2 weeks ago so not bad. My Z4 was reliable, just sounded rubbish and had niggling doubts over long term reliability.
Never really owned a car thats had bad reliability problems, would say Peugeot was the worst for quality I've owned along with Vauxhall.

Clearly it's not a major build quality issue on every BMW or Z4, I just seem to have had two problematic bmws. It's put me off owning another and reports like that make me laugh (angrily).
I'm sticking with the e89 as I've sorted every niggle. It's that or let all that effort go and get into another car that also could have issues. Better the devil you know for me anyhow.

In terms of reliability I've never been let down by BMW, i.e. apart from the odd niggle I've never been left stranded by the roadside. Quality though has for me suffered over the years. I would say my Z3 built in 2001 feels much better put together than my old Z4 and the quality of certain materials far better. Biggest gripe with latest BMWs is paint quality or lack off, quality of the alloys and certain rubber and plastics around the car which is just plain cheap and in some cases nasty which overall takes away that premium feel you're supposed to buying into in the first place :|

I've had my Z4 for 3 month and already had one of the plastic bumper-to-wing clips snap, cup holder has broken and the interior plastic rattles terribly (sounds like a skeleton w&*king in a dustbin!). Still love the car though. It's all about the engine, which I hope won't give me any problems!
Not being of an engineering bent and without getting into semantics, I would have thought that build quality has a direct impact on reliability.
It's a shame because we all agree that the zed is a great fun design.
Chasabi, I wish that was all that was wrong with mine. ABS pump gone! Never had that happen in any car I've ever owned.

Given the e89 is built in Germany (vs the US for the e85/etc) I'd say its no better built there. Having owned both the e85 and e89 I'd say they were similarly (not brilliantly) built. Especially when you consider the price of these things. Part of the issue is the design, so much plastic in the e85/86 makes for a lot of rattles when you factor in the hard ride. While the e89 rides more smoothly, there's still that BMW need to make the slightest imperfection in the road make a loud bang through the car.
It still amazes me how the ride can be so soft yet so jarring at the same time. Other companies seem to manage a better mix (Porsche for example, they handle well yet still absorb sharp impacts well).
