Z4 Manual Roadster (2007) lost acceleration

My manual 2007 Z4 Roadster 3.0si has recently lost significant power and torque. It's similar to the power loss when the A/C is running but stronger and constant - regardless Of the A/C.

Just changed the oil and no help there. What happens is the RPM's seem disproportionately higher than needed and the car takes forever to get up to speed. And when pushed (like on the freeway) - I can smell something burning when I get to my destination.

Any thoughts?

Plugs and coils are new too.

Thanks!

If the speed isn’t building proportionally with the rpm sounds like the clutch is slipping. Would also explain the burning smell

Your first port of call should be to plug it into INPA and check the codes.

I think in this case that would only be useful if he has an engine light.
The slipping clutch might be a more likely scenario here, although if the TS couldn't figure that out I'd suggest to go to the nearest garage asap before he gets stranded.

The clutch is fully out at the point where I am seeing the problem. Fully in gear (all gears this happens). Just me and the gas pedal and high Rev and it's like I am towing a boat. Is that clutch slippage?

Yes. Nothing to do with where the pedal is etc. Clutch plate is worn so it slips. Engine revs increase but that doesn’t transfer to drivetrain. The slipping clutch plate also causes a burning smell.

You need to get it checked out ASAP or you’ll end up stranded somewhere. The clutch will just give out at some point...........soon

Yep, sounds like the clutch for sure. Get it dealt with soon or you risk overheating things and the fix being more expensive. Hopefully it’ll just be clutch plates but if it gets too hot you could be looking at a whole lot of other stuff....

I would agree with the others, it sounds like your clutch is slipping, best get it changed out as soon as possible, its a gerabox out job to get at it so probably a garage job, find an independant BMW specialist near you to get this done. You may be lucky and only need the pressure plate and friction disc renewed but the flywheel face may be damaged and need replacing, that would obviously add a considerable amount to your final bill.
