Z4 making a whine like a bi-plane when accelerating

Hi. I have just noticed that my Z4 coupe is making a whining noise, like a bi-plane taking off, when I put my foot down to accelerate rapidly. When I leave off the accelerator the noise slows like a bi-plane coming in to land. At first I thought turbo noise but then I thought this is a naturally aspirated engine so it has no turbo. I do not think it was doing it before but then usually have my music on so might have missed it. Is this normal or should I be getting it checked out. Any ideas what this could be?

It's the 3.0 si sport first registered April 2007. There are no warning lights on the dash the temperature shows fine and just had it's service on 01/12/09 and passed with no problems. The noise is not always present or even present at the same revs so it may be normal and like said as I usually have my music blasting it may have always done it but as the warranty is coming up soon though I better check. Not planning to get rid of it for another couple of years so might see about extending the warranty.
 
my better half says my 2.5 sounds like a jet engine when you accelerate it hard - Its quite a high pitch whine when it gets to the upper end of the rev range - each Z4 I've been in does it, so I wouldn't worry.

Like you though I only hear it when the better ha;f's in the car as usually I have music up loud if I'm on my own...
