Z4 M vs V8 Vantage

Just thought Id share my earlier experience. Was driving along on a bypass and from behind I saw a brand new v8 vantage merging onto the road. He seen me and came flying up my rear end(I have to admit it sounded amazing!) So I pulled over, dropped a few gears and as soon as I heard him gunning it I also went for it. (The road was totally empty by the way or I wouldnt have bothered). Now I expected to put up a good fight but see the v8 pull away...but no, we held together through third and then into 4th I started slowly edging away from him. At the next roundabout the guy was not happy

alot of ppl underestimate how fast the Z4 M's are. the 0-60 is impressive bt thats nothing compared to when they put the power down. they are great pocket rockets.

On paper the performance of the V8 Vantage is very close to the MZ4. 0-60's are dead even on paper but I know many member have claim much better results when the rubber meets the road.... :driving:

Yep, they're only 380bhp and must weigh quite a bit more than the Z4M too. I'm not struck on them, I drive past the AM dealer every day to get to work so I always see loads out on test drives, and I'm not so keen. I'll take the ///M and the difference in cash :D

Aye, my Z4MC held its own against a TVR Tuscan (which surprised me).

However, if I had the cash I'd probably swap it for the V8 Vantage. They look and sound fantastic.

A chap I work with has both the V8 Vantage and a Z4M Roadster. He said there isn't much in it and if anything the Z4M feels a little faster... Whether it is or not it doesn't really matter, lets face it, think we would all rather own the Aston! Not to shabby though when you consider the price difference :)

Not me... :P
If I was going to spend that much money there would be Porsche Turbo in my driveway....

I'd buy a 3-4 year old Gallardo ;)

RHD used examples start at about £80k?...I would probably go for an 05/06 Aston V8 for £60,000 ish...the 911 is very, very tempting but the Aston just has something about it; it sounds like sex and its drop dead gorgeous. I also think you can park it at Tesco without looking a bit daft, the Gallardo would be trickier day to day....Though I find it annoying on a £90k car Sat Nav, an upgraded stereo and Bluetooth are still bloody optional extras!

The Z4M does do alot of what the Aston does for half the price though...

Im Sure he knows what hes talking about but i find it hard to believe the Z4M gives the V8 a good run for its money....

Maybe hes a little more pedal happy with the Z4M as the service and repair costs dont require a mortgage.

Cheers

Ps Regarding ideal cars the list would be too long but an Aston would be pretty high and the 911 Turbo would be pretty close too.

They sure do...

My Z4M isn't my daily car, so neither would the Lambo be. I'd still go to Tesco in one if I had it though! lol

The Aston is nice, but it's a different car/class to the Lamborghini. I mean, it's a Lambo! And that howling V10, to me, is better soundtrack than the Aston V8....

The Z4M is definitely a tad quicker, the Aston is lovely but it's heavier and not that much more powerful, i'd go for a GT3 if I had that sort of budget, AMv8 is nice but it's not a DB9 and if you can't afford the DB9 then you might as well buy something that is better to drive instead like the Porsche or buy an M6 and pay 20k off your mortgage

He's most certainly driven the V8 properly, trust me ;) But he's a huge fan of the Z4, when you look at both cars figures on paper and then look at the typical purchase cost of each - it's an eye opener!

...oh and if I was spending that much money I would probably go with the 997 too, because like the BMW you can drive it hard without the worries of it breaking on you ;)

A 997 (turbo or otherwise) really has no appeal for me. Mostly because it's the 'obvious' and 'safe' choice in that price bracket.

Hell, if I wanted to go 'safe' I'd have bought a Cayman instead of a Z4MC

funny.. i guess we're all competitors in the same market for our next cars, assuming we stay away from dealers in our next move up the price bracket..

almost expect to go looking at a 2yr old Gallardo in 18 months time and find one of you gents has just pipped me to the post.. lol.. =)

Its not really a question of 'if' the z4 is faster, it 'is' faster. This post was of me racing one. Fair enough it was a straight road and not a proper race but the z4 M pulled away, not quickly but I got a cars length ahead before we had to brake.
For that price I would def get a Porsche Turbo. My dad has one and it is the fastest thing I have ever been in! The Lambo sounds better(his neighbour has 1) but it is not as fast. For outright driving pleasure it would be the turbo, it is so much damn fun! :D

According to this month's Evo Aston will be producing a DB9R-engined Vantage this year. Prototype is out -- it's called the RS.

I actually had an identical experience here in California. I came upon a V8 Vantage on an empty section of road and we both went for it from around 45 mph to 95 mph. It was quite close but i slowly pulled on him until the end (95 mph) when the front of his car was a few feet maybe behind the back of my Z4 M Coupe.
