Z4 M sports suspension - what is it ?

BMW education (fast facts) says that the Z4 M sport suspension is just a lowered ride height (same springs, anti-roll bar etc etc).

So does anyone know what is really actually different about this set-up... and in particular why do some say that it gives a firmer ride than the regular Z4 suspension. I can't see why it is a £220 extra ... if all it consists of is a lowering of the ride height ?

Anybody know ?

Thanks

More then just springs. Take a look at RealOEM.com and compare the various suspension components between the "M Sport" and non sport cars. Springs, struts, shocks, stabilizer bars..... all have different part numbers between the two different setups.

Sorry probably not being clear enough with my question. I think there are three suspension setups.

Regular Z4
M-Sport as fitted to regular Z4 as an option (or sport variant as standard)
Z4M suspension

I appreciate that the Z4M version is different but the difference between the versions fitted to the regular Z4 is unclear (except BMW education says that it is just a lowered ride height).

And it's actually not even a lower ride height. The stock Z4M sits about 10mm higher than a non-M Z4 with sport suspensions.

Between the M and the Z4, the springs rates are different. The damper valvings are different. The ways the struts are bolted are different. The sway bar thickness are probably different too.

Sounds about right betwen the M and the Z4... but I just don't understand what you get for your £200+ quid in the option to get the M-Sport suspension on a regular Z4.

BMW don't make it obvious in the brochures....

If you include the Z4M yes there are 3 set ups but if you read imcompatible's post again he has told you the difference between Standard Z4 suspension and the M Sport Suspension fitted to a non M Z4, every component is different.

Differeces between Z4 sport suspension and non-sport suspension

- sport has lower ride height (0.6")
- sport has stiffer springs and dampers that are valved for these springs
- sport has thicker sway bars

Thanks... if true then I am reassured that I am actually getting something for my ackers.... the bit on page 16 of the BMW 2008 fast facts at
http://www.bmweducation.co.uk/publications/ is confusing....

M Sport suspension
The M Sport suspension enhances sporty handling with minimal loss of ride
comfort. The ‘M’ stands for BMW M, the competition and high performance
division of BMW, whose philosophy of chassis tuning is applied to every optional
sport suspension system.

Essential elements of the M Sport suspension system (except Z4) include:
• Lowered ride height.
• Firmer springs and shock absorbers.
• Differently sized anti-roll (stabiliser) bars (usually larger and firmer than the
standard ones).
The Z4’s sport suspension includes only the lowered ride height.

I see why you're confused. All of the "Essential elements of the M Sport suspension system" listed are incorporated in the non-M Z4 with the sport/M suspension. Appears that the proof read of the information and/or product knowledge is not what it should be.

Per vin decoder I realize I have the M sport Suspension package on my Z4.
I know this is an old topic, but thanks for defining what M Sport Suspension is.
